Harry Potter’s best return to the big screen should be a brand new story, instead of adapting Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Harry Potters Best Movie Return Would Be A New Story (Not Cursed Child)

If a new Harry Potter movie were to happen, the best option would be to cover a whole new story instead of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – and here’s which story would be best. The fantasy genre is full of a variety of worlds with their own mythologies, and one of the most popular and beloved ones is the Wizarding World from the Harry Potter books series and movies. Readers were introduced to it in 1997 in J.K. Rowling’s debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first entry in a series of seven novels that ended up making way for a franchise covering movies, plays, supplementary material, and even theme-park attractions.

The Harry Potter saga tells the story of “the boy who lived” and his journey through the Wizarding World, with special focus on his quest to defeat Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard of all who had a personal vendetta against Harry and dangerous plans for both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. The final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007, but fans weren’t left without adventures in the Wizarding World as the novels were adapted to the big screen between 2001 and 2011, with the final book divided into two movies. Although this universe keeps expanding with the Fantastic Beasts movies, fans would like to see Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger again, preferably on the big screen.

The future of the Wizarding World right now is all about the Fantastic Beasts series, with a third movie in development and plans for two more, but there have also been rumors of a TV series for HBO Max, though there haven’t been any news on that. Still, fans don’t lose hope in getting a new Harry Potter movie in a (hopefully) not-so-distant future, but the big question is what could the story be about. The “easiest” answer would be for Warner Bros. to adapt the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, especially after its success (though some fans weren’t fully on board with the story), but it would be best to tell a brand-new story, such as Harry as an Auror.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was released in print and digital formats in 2016, so the story is now well-known by fans of the main series, and there are also many issues with it, such as how the writers re-used storylines (like the Time-Turner one and Cedric’s death), overplayed tropes of the genre, and was even accused of queerbaiting through the relationship between Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. The Harry Potter saga would benefit more from telling a new story that hasn’t been published yet, and if viewers are to be reunited with the title character, then the best option is to explore Harry’s role as an Auror. Following the events of the main series, Harry was recruited by Kingsley Shacklebot, the new Minister for Magic, and became an Auror, which is a wizard or witch who serves as a highly trained law enforcement official for the magical government. Harry first expressed interest in becoming an Auror during his fifth year at Hogwarts, and by 2007, he was the Head of the Auror Office.

Harry Potter’s years as an Auror in a world free of Lord Voldemort’s reign of fear would be a much more interesting story to watch than an adaptation of Cursed Child, and it could answer some of the biggest questions fans have not only about Harry’s post-Hogwarts life but also about his years at Hogwarts. Whether Harry Potter fans will get to enjoy a new movie or a TV show remains to be seen, but hopefully, they will get to reunite with “the boy who lived” soon.
