Among the Avengers, Hawkeye is used to being the brunt of jokes as he doesn’t have superpowers like many of his teammates. However, Doctor Strange’s ghost dog, Bats, just levied a new criticism at the hero, telling the Sorcerer Supreme that feeding pizza to his dog Lucky will make the adorable golden retriever a ghost like him soon enough.
Hawkeye has been a member of the Avengers since near the inception of the team. He joined the team in the ’60s and has played a key role on different variations of the superteam ever since. One of the biggest knocks on Hawkeye is his lack of superpowers, as the sharpshooting archer is all about natural skill. He can’t cast spells, wield Mjolnir, or build his own advanced Iron Man suits. But, he can shoot an arrow with extreme accuracy. While Hawkeye has been given powers before, the most consistent version of the hero has been a straight shooter when it comes to special abilities – which usually is the biggest joke made about him. However, Doctor Strange’s dog just lobbed a new burn at Hawkeye that has nothing to do with his missing superpowers.
Jed MacKay shared a new look at his upcoming The Death of Doctor Strange series with Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit. In the image, Doctor Strange is walking his ghost dog, Bats, and the topic of Hawkeye comes up. Strange tells Lucky he bets Lucky the Pizza Dog doesn’t drag him out of bed for walks in the morning, to which the canine responds, “the way Hawkeye feeds his dog pizza, Lucky’ll be a ghost soon enough.”

Lucky the Pizza Dog loves pizza and Hawkeye certainly indulges him with a slice every now and again. It’s part of what makes him so dang cute. However, Bats has a point that maybe Clint Barton should switch up his diet to avoid creating a new ghost dog. Although contrary to popular belief, Hawkeye doesn’t feed Lucky pizza exclusively. Plus, he’s a survivor, so a little pizza won’t do him much harm.
Perhaps, Bats is a little bit jealous about Lucky’s diet and the fact he’s still alive. Regardless, the shot at Hawkeye is hilarious, as he’s usually criticized for not having superpowers, not for what he feeds his dog. Lucky had a troubled life before encountering Clint Barton – who helped save him – so he deserves all the pizza he can get. Hawkeye raised a very good boy. The Death of Doctor Strange #1 is in comic book stores on September 22, 2021.
