It now seems that the creator of the series, Mike Mignola, has been trying their hand at Pokemon designs and fans seem very pleased. While partnering with Pokemon may seem like an odd choice for a creative who has been inspired by horror and folklore, Mingola’s content would rival some of the best fan-made Pokemon content.

Hellboy was originally released in 1993 and followed the titular half-demon as he attempts to protect the world. Hellboy has managed to successfully cross over to multiple mediums and this is in-part to the characters signature look and horror inspired style. With the characters typical depiction in mind, it was surprising to see the versatility of Mignola as they changed their usual Instagram posts to daily Pokemon sketches.

The comic book creator, Mike Mignola, is very talented and his skills were showcased in these Pokemon sketches, which he explained were a request from his daughter. The unique sketches have included Bulbasaur, Scyther and Slobro so far. While there has been some fantastic Pokemon fan-art, this surprising combination has pleased a great number of fans from both franchises. One comment on a Pokemon sketch claimed that Mingola had 146 characters left to draw, and while this seems unlikely, plenty of fans would like to see more of this content. Many players have been enjoying Pokemon content while self-isolating indoors and the community seems to be generating plenty of material to keep players entertained. Alongside fan content, Pokemon Go has made changes so it can be played indoors and there seems to be material for fans to experience. It will be interesting to see how the community continues to keep the franchise fresh, but with an extensive history as well as a number of games, it should not be too difficult.

After these excellent sketches, many will wonder if there will be a Hellboy crossover with the Pokemon games. While it is unlikely an official collaboration would take place, because of the differing a tone, the art style that has been displayed may inspire fans of the series. It seems that the Pokemon community have plenty of ways of reinventing the beloved series during these trying times.
