Hotel Transylvania: Transformania has been delayed from a summer release to fall. The fourth and final film in the Hotel Transylvania franchise will see Dracula and the various monsters turn into humans, while the human character Johnny transforms into a monster. The film will feature a number of breaks from tradition as it will be the first film to not be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and will feature Brian Hull as Dracula over Adam Sandler.

According to Variety, Sony Pictures has moved Hotel Transylvania: Transformania to an October 1, 2021 release date. The film was originally set to open on July 23, 2021, on a summer release date that was similar to Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. It will be the first film in the franchise to open in October as the first two installments opened in September.

The release date change moves Hotel Transylvania: Transformania from a crowded summer where it was originally set to open the same day as Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The film will now open opposite Warner Bros. Dune and go head to head at the box office with MGM’s The Addams Family 2. Both Hotel Transylvania: Transformania and The Addams Family 2 will be competing with audiences to be the family-friendly Halloween alternative to horror films The Last Night in Soho, Antlers, and Halloween Kills. Without Sandler and Tartakovsky, the sequel may have trouble connecting with fans and critics alike. Releasing the film in July would have given the movie less competition, but releasing it in October is definitely a more fitting release date for the final Hotel Transylvania.
