The latest entry in the storied sports franchise, Madden NFL 21, is releasing in a year that’s seen a pandemic, protests, and the change of at least one team’s controversial name. For a time, it was even in question if the next Madden game would release this year. Luckily, the next installment releases in August, bringing with it the usual amenities fans have come to expect from the series, including the uniform variants for all of the teams.
In the past, Madden games have done a great job of including just about every jersey a team has worn. It’s that kind of accuracy that fans of the franchise have come to expect, and that accuracy is repeated in Madden NFL 21. Currently, the NFL has 32 teams, and each team has multiple uniform variations. This is especially important to Madden NFL 21’s accuracy, because the league had eight teams change their logos or uniforms in some way during the offseason, and one team (Washington) completely abandoned their team name altogether.
NFL teams naturally go through changes over the years, and the long-running Madden series has typically done a solid job of incorporating these changes into the games. The seven teams that made logo or uniform changes this year were the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots. The eighth team, Washington, recently dropped their controversial moniker altogether and are currently titled the Washington Football Team, a generic placeholder until the team reaches an official new name. The in-game jerseys in Madden NFL 21 will reflect all these changes.
Jersey Variants in Madden NFL 21
Of the teams that made uniform or logo changes, the Atlanta Falcons made one of the biggest splashes when they unveiled the ATL on the front of their jerseys. Some teams, like the Los Angeles Chargers, added numbers back to their helmets. Quite a few teams introduced new jersey colors and new pants colors, further adding to the available uniform options. Madden NFL 21 includes all of these changes, meaning players can take to the field in a wide range of jerseys and uniforms.
Madden NFL 21 is set to officially release on August 28th, 2020. However, now that the game is already on EA Play, the new streaming service from the company, fans will already be able to experiment with the various in-game uniforms for all 32 of the league’s teams.
