How Does Team Galactic Fit Into Pokémon Legends Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to explore the early days of Sinnoh in what was once called the Hisui region. Players will complete Hisui’s first Pokédex by setting out on Survey Corps expeditions as part of Galaxy Team. While discovering new Pokémon and recording their data, players will meet and interact with members from the clans Diamond and Pearl. Some of these clan members include wardens who protect special Noble Pokémon and are individuals the player can befriend throughout the game’s story.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus has many nods to the original Diamond and Pearl, as seen through the naming of the clans, the existence of Jubilife Village and the inclusion of Professor Rowan’s ancestor Commander Kamado. However, one question that still remains is who, if anyone, the game’s villains are. Diamond and Pearl’s bad guys were Team Galactic, and while they have not been explicitly confirmed, there are some clues that could hint at their involvement in the upcoming game.

Players first meet Team Galactic in Diamond and Pearl when they encounter two henchmen trying to steal a Pokédex from Professor Rowan’s assistant — a crime that no other Team has attempted. Team Galactic’s goal is to create a new universe by commanding the power of special Pokémon, a feat aided by information in the Pokédex. Since the main goal of Legends: Arceus is filling out Hisui’s first Pokédex — for a group called the Galaxy Team, no less — it’s possible there’s a plot twist or some other connection being teased here.

In Diamond and Pearl, Team Galactic wanted to control special Pokémon to recreate the universe. Meanwhile, the Wardens of Hisui protect Noble Pokémon, which have special powers beyond those of the average Pokémon. Interestingly, one of the wardens bears a striking resemblance to a Team Galactic commander. Arezu has the same red pointed hair do as Mars from Diamond and Pearl. In the same way Rowan is the descendant of Kamado, it would stand to reason that Mars could be a descendant of Arezu.

If Arezu is related to Mars, perhaps there is a link between Team Galactic trying to control special Pokémon and Arezu’s relation to a Noble Pokémon. The presence of competing clans and the Galaxy Team suggests that Team Galactic could form as an offshoot of these groups. The naming of Galaxy Team itself is a clear nod to Team Galactic, and the logos of the two are remarkably similar. Plus, while Galaxy Team Commander Kamado’s descendant is not a member of Team Galactic, the leader of the Galaxy Team’s Survey Corps, Cyllene, bears a striking resemblance to Team Galactic Boss Cyrus (though a connection between the two has not been confirmed).

It’s not clear how all of these elements will tie together in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, if at all. At the very least, players can expect references that tease the eventually formation of Team Galactic. They may not exist yet in Hisui, but the links between Arezu, Cyllene, special Pokémon, and the Galaxy Team’s name and interest in the Pokédex are too similar to just be coincidences.
