The Future Games Show at E3 2021 revealed Frontier Games’ newest Jurassic World installment: Jurassic World Evolution 2. As is the case with all sequels, Jurassic World Evolution 2 promises to expand on gameplay features utilized in the original. These new features will be experienced throughout the four available game modes offered in the sequel. The trailer shows off new biomes, maps, and buildings that will be available to players. The addition that sparks the most excitement, however, is the promise of more dinosaurs featured in Jurassic World Evolution 2.

These dinosaurs will appear in the Jurassic World Evolution 2 story mode, which is set after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Players will be tasked with capturing, containing, and maintaining the health of the dinosaurs that are now running amok in the wilds of America. Jurassic World Evolution 2’s story will have players work alongside characters from the movies and feature the voice talents of Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum. It is unknown at this time how long the story will run, or how many different environments it will introduce. It is also unknown whether players will be able to return to the Isla Nublar island chains.

The Game Director at Frontier Development, Rich Newbold, confirmed Jurassic World Evolution 2 will have over 75 dinosaurs. Fans were assured that community favorite species would be returning and that they would be joined by many new dinosaurs as well. Jurassic Park’s Triceratops is one of the creatures confirmed to be returning for the sequel. Frontier Development will be revealing various Species Field Guide videos in the months leading up to release, which will highlight various creatures appearing in the game throughout new environments in Jurassic World Evolution 2. Given the icons present in the Species Field Guide video, marine and flying dinosaurs will also receive their time in the spotlight.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Expands On Dinosaur Species

One of the most significant additions to Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the inclusion of marine dinosaurs. The first installment of the Jurassic World Evolution games only featured dinosaurs that lived on land. Players were always able to add water into different dinosaur enclosures, both for drinking purposes and for entertainment. Creatures such as Parasaurolophus had enjoyed the water more than others, but there have never been dinosaurs that lived exclusively in water in-game. This shift in gameplay will most certainly introduce new, challenging mechanics for players to enjoy. The specific species of water-dwelling dinosaurs have not been revealed, but the Jurassic World Evolution 2 video appears to show off Jurassic World’s deadly Mosasaur.

Marine dinosaurs are not the only new addition to the game, as flying dinosaurs have also been added. Like marine dinosaurs, this will most certainly change up the gameplay of Jurassic World Evolution 2. Promotional art for the game appears to show the existence of an aviary-like building, similar to the one shown in Jurassic World. A few flying dinosaurs are shown in the Species Field Guide video, appearing to resemble Pterodactyls and Dimorphodons, species who also made appearances in Jurassic World. It is unknown at this time whether flying or marine dinosaurs will be bound to specific biomes, or whether the creatures will require a different level of care than their land-dwelling brethren.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 promises to be an improvement on the series’ original installment, expanding on buildings, gameplay, and dinosaurs. With over 75 dinosaurs to choose from, players will be able to make their dream Jurassic Parks in brand new environments with some help from memorable characters of the Jurassic World franchise. Jurassic World Evolution 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date, but is promised to be released at some point in 2021.
