How Pokémon GOs Kanto Tour Is Better Than Pokémon GO Fest

Pokémon GO just wrapped up its celebration of the Kanto region following the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event, which was one of the best events Pokémon GO has held in the past five years. Pokémon GO holds many ticketed events that allow players varying levels of participation depending on whether or not they purchase a virtual ticket. However, the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event was much better than the similar ticketed event, Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

The Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event was held on February 20th as a part of the Pokémon 25th anniversary celebration. The event featured all Gen 1 Pokémon to commemorate where the franchise began, and players who purchased a ticket to the event were granted a bunch of exclusive bonuses. These included special research challenges that grant access to previously unattainable Pokémon, increased Shiny rates for a large number of Pokémon, and a ton of free items to keep players stocked up while playing.

Compared to Pokémon GO Fest 2020, buying a ticket for the Tour: Kanto event was a much better deal. Pokémon GO Fest felt like a rushed attempt to virtualize something that’s traditionally an in-person event, while Tour: Kanto felt like a true celebration of Pokémon and its community. When looking at what both had to offer, it’s obvious that Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto was the better event.

Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto Was Better Than GO Fest 2020

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 introduced five new Shiny forms to the popular mobile game. This may seem like a large number at first, but Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto added 11 new Shiny forms, including Shiny Mew which couldn’t be obtained legitimately by western Pokémon fans beforehand without traveling to Japan. Pokémon GO Fest 2020 didn’t offer any increased Shiny odds, while those who bought a ticket to the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event received increased Shiny odds for 22 different Pokémon. This one-day event offered more increased odds than any Pokémon GO event prior.

GO Fest 2020 did last two whole days while Tour: Kanto was limited to one, but players were still given more meaningful rewards for participating in Tour: Kanto’s special research challenges. Not only could Tour: Kanto ticket purchasers encounter Shiny Mew, but they were also given an additional storyline that rewarded them with a Shiny Ditto encounter. Pokémon GO Fest 2020 special research quests granted players with a Victini encounter which was later given to all players for free. As well, the Pokémon GO Fest 2020 ticket was priced at $14.99 while Tour: Kanto cost $11.99. While the Pokémon GO Fest was a day longer, Tour: Kanto offered players more in a shorter window of time.

When looking at the events, it comes down to players’ preferences of how they like to play. Pokémon GO Fest 2020 offered a more diverse pool of Pokémon, while Tour: Kanto focused solely on Gen 1 which some claim is overdone. But when looking at the bonuses that are given to ticket purchasers, Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto was the better event.
