Actor and musician Jack Black is known for his larger-than-life persona, but exactly how tall is he? California-born Jack Black kick-started his showbiz career starring in a 1982 commercial for the video game Pitfall! and soon after made his small screen debut with a bit part in the Lee Majors-fronted The Fall Guy. Black added a ton of notches to his résumé throughout the 1990s with small roles in films like The NeverEnding Story III, Mars Attacks! and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and shows including The X-Files and Touched By An Angel.
Jack Black’s breakout role came playing the part of record store worker and music aficionado Barry in the 2000 comedy-drama High Fidelity which he followed up with roles in Shallow Hal and Orange County. A starring role beckoned in 2003 with the Richard Linklater-directed comedy School Of Rock in which Black played Dewey Finn – a rock musician posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious private school who forms a band with his fifth-grade students.
Black has shown he has a knack for starring in kid-friendly comedies like School Of Rock. Alongside voice roles in Shark Tale and the Kung Fu Panda films, he’s also been in the two latest Jumanji movies and played writer R.L. Stine in Goosebumps and its sequel. With films that feature young co-stars, it can be difficult to judge an actor’s height, but according to Celeb Heights Jack Black stands at five feet and six inches tall.
Alongside acting, Black is also one half of comedy rock duo Tenacious D with band-mate and long-time friend Kyle Gass. Being part of Tenacious D has seen Black’s acting and music careers collide on more than one occasion. The duo was the focus of a short-lived HBO TV series – aptly titled Tenacious D – in the late 1990s and starred in their very own film, Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny, in 2006. More recently, they voiced animated versions of themselves in the YouTube miniseries Tenacious D: Post-Apocalypto.
Jack Black has been making movie-goers and music fans laugh for a few decades now, but if a recent interview with the actor-musician is anything to go by, he might not be doing so for much longer. While talking to Balance in 2019, Black stated he was thinking about early retirement but said he still had “a couple of tricks” up his sleeve yet. However, with at least one more Jack Black movie – the Richard Linklater coming-of-age comedy Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Adventure – coming soon, perhaps those retirement plans are still a good few years away.
