Storm is one of most important characters in the history of Marvel Comics, in terms of both the representation of women of color in superhero comics and her pivotal role in many major storylines. The ability to control the weather makes Storm an Omega-level mutant in the Marvel universe, and she has the potential to be so much more in a Dungeons & Dragons setting.

Storm is both a princess and one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel universe, but she grew up under harsh circumstances. Born Ororo Munroe in New York City, her parents were killed in a plane crash in Egypt, leaving Storm to fend for herself on the streets of Cairo. She was taken in by a gang of thieves, and she became a skilled pickpocket. As Storm grew older, she began to develop her mutant abilities, allowing her to control the weather. Storm was soon worshipped as a living goddess, thanks to her ability to summon the rain in desolate countries. Charles Xavier tracked her down and revealed the truth of her mutant nature. Storm became a member of the second generation of X-Men and would take over the leadership role from Cyclops. Since then, Storm has led the X-Men through some of their most dangerous adventures. Storm would later join the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, making her one of only three characters who have been members of both teams and the X-Men (the other two being Spider-Man and Wolverine). Storm’s Ability Scores, Class, And Background

The version of Storm we have created uses material from the Player’s Handbook and Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Storm is a human (non-variant) sorcerer who takes on the Storm Sorcery Origin at level one. Using the basic stat spread listed on page 13 of the Player’s Handbook and taking her race into account, Storm’s starting stats would be STR 9, DEX 15, CON 14, INT 11, WIS 13, CHA 16.

Following her parent’s fatal accident, Storm spent years living on the streets of Cairo, where she became a professional pickpocket. As such, her background would be Urchin. Storm’s starting skills would be Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Intimidation, and Persuasion. If the variant Feat rules are, Storm would benefit from Elemental Adept (Lightning), Elemental Adept (Cold), Inspiring Leader, Spell Sniper, and War Caster. She would pick Quickened Spell and Empowered Spell as her first Metamagic abilities, followed by Distant Spell, and then Twinned Spell.

In terms of alignment, Storm would fall into Chaotic Good. Like the other members of the X-Men, she fights to protect the world that hates and fears her. The X-Men exist outside of the boundaries of the law and are often opposed by the governments of the world, yet they risk their lives to face supervillains and cosmic-level threats whenever they are needed. Storm has also been a member of other teams, where she has served a similar purpose for the world at large.

Storm’s Spells And Roleplay

Storm’s mutant abilities allow her to control the weather, which includes being able to create cold, lightning, and change the flow of the air itself. All of this is easily accommodated by the sorcerer spell list, which means that Storm would benefit from chill touch, light, mage hand, ray of frost, shocking grasp, feather fall, fog cloud, thunderwave, gust of wind, levitate, shatter, spider climb, daylight, fly, lightning bolt, protection from energy, sleet storm, stinking cloud, ice storm, cloudkill, cone of cold, chain lightning, move earth, fire storm, reverse gravity, earthquake, incendiary cloud, and meteor swarm. The player should see if the DM will let them take entries from the druid list, like control weather, storm of vengeance, and tsunami, possibly at the cost of a feat or stat upgrade.

Storm is one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel universe, which uses a contemporary setting. A character with the same abilities would have even more power in a fantasy setting based on medieval Europe. Entire wars in the real world were decided by shifts in the weather, especially in naval warfare. The ability to fire a bow or ride a horse can be derailed by rain and mud, and someone with the ability to do this on purpose would be an incredible asset on the battlefield. There is also the matter of agriculture to consider, as someone with magic that can control the weather can prevent (or at least seriously curb) famine. A spellcaster with the natural ability to control the weather would be extremely popular in a D&D campaign world, especially as they grow stronger. Druids already possess this kind of magic, but they are less inclined to help people in cities, as they’re all about nature. A spellcaster with the ability to influence the weather and who is willing to do so to aid the common man would have a lot of supporters, to the point where being hailed as a living goddess would be believable.

The second generation of X-Men was composed of outsiders, with almost every member of the team coming from a different country. This had a built-in dynamic that helped the series become immensely popular with readers. In Storm’s case, she quickly took the leadership role thanks to her bravery, intellect, and ability to keep calm under fire. She quickly earned the respect of hardened battle veterans like Banshee and Wolverine, who would go on to follow her into combat on alien worlds and the underworld itself. Storm is one of the most powerful superheroes around, but that’s not the reason why she led the X-Men for so long. Storm is the epitome of what it means to be a hero, and that might seem like it would be easy to act out in Dungeons & Dragons, but many players become protective of their characters and act selfishly to keep them alive. Playing a true hero who risks their lives becomes harder over time, as the player grows attached to a character, but that’s exactly what is required to play a character like Storm in D&D.
