TikTok is one of the most popular iPhone apps on the planet, and just like so many other applications, it comes with a dark mode that makes viewing easier at night, among other things. Dark mode for TikTok isn’t quite as noticeable compared to some other apps, but it’s still a great feature to have and is definitely worth using.

Over the last couple of years, most of the major smartphone apps (and many smaller ones) have introduced dark modes. The majority of apps feature white backgrounds and other bright interface elements. While these look fine during the day, they aren’t the most comfortable when viewed in the dark. Whether it be at night or early in the morning, these stark UI elements can be pretty annoying on people’s eyes. With dark mode, these things are replaced with darker, more subdued colors — thus creating a more comfortable viewing experience.

As expected, TikTok is one of the many apps out there that has dark mode support. On the TikTok app for iPhone, tap the ‘Me’ tab on the bottom of the screen and then tap the three dots at the top-right corner. This opens the ‘Settings and privacy’ page. From here, tap ‘Dark mode’ and then tap ‘Dark.’ Just like that, any menus/pages throughout the TikTok app will go from white to black.

How To Set Up TikTok Dark Mode With iPhone Device Settings

On that same Dark mode page, there’s a toggle called ‘Use device settings.’ When this is enabled, TikTok will switch between its light and dark modes depending on the system settings of the iPhone. If the iPhone itself is set to dark mode, TikTok will also switch to dark mode (and vice versa).

To configure iPhone dark mode settings, open the iPhone Settings app, scroll down, and then tap ‘Display & Brightness.’ In addition to manually switching between light/dark mode, users can also set up an automatic schedule. Just make sure the ‘Automatic toggle is enabled, tap the ‘Options’ button below that, and then choose one of two modes: Sunset to Sunrise or Custom Schedule. When the iPhone automatically changes to light or dark mode, the TikTok app will do the same thing.

The only catch with all of this is that dark mode is only available for the TikTok iPhone app. There’s no reason it can’t come to the Android app at some point down the road, but there’s also been no indication it’s coming any time soon. For now, all of this only applies to iPhone users.
