How to Find (& Catch) Aron in Pokémon Go (Hoenn Collection)

Aron is a Rock and Steel-type introduced during the third generation that players must catch to complete the Hoenn Collection Challenge in Pokémon Go. This quadruped creature dines on iron ore deposits to grow the steel armor that protects it. They’re normally found in mountainous regions, where their food source is plentiful, but have been known to eat railroads in urban areas as well; like an iron termite.

Aron are the first evolutionary stage for one of Hoenn’s strongest species. After evolving into Lairon, this little monster evolves into the bulking Aggron. After becoming bipedal, this behemoth strikes incredibly hard and can tank physical hits very well. In Go, it can learn Stone Edge and Heavy Slam for immense damage, while potentially learning Thunder and Dragon Tail for more type coverage. Catching only one Aron is necessary for the Hoenn Challenge, but players should consider catching even more Aron so they’ll have enough candy to evolve one into an Aggron for use in gym battles and raids. Regardless of whether an Aron is needed to complete this January 2021 event, or if a trainer wants to add an Aggron to their team, here’s how to go about finding Aron in Pokémon Go.

Finding Aron in Pokémon Go

Aron were first found in Granite Cave outside of Dewford town back in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. But in Pokémon Go, they don’t appear in any predetermined location. Instead, like every spawn in this mobile hit, their type determines what habitat they appear in. Steel types gather in cities and large towns, so those living in urban environments will have an easier shot at finding them; some may not even have to leave their homes! Rock-types like asphalt and they can be found anywhere there are roads. This may seem dangerous, with high-speed highways and whatnot, but this means that Aron have the potential to show up at parking lots. This includes parking lots in nature parks, so trainers can find Aron while still in their car; just make sure to not drive and play at the same time.

Though the locations listed above are where types like Aron normally spawn, the Hoenn Collection Challenge makes the process easier. During the event, the appearance rates of the creatures required to beat it are increased! This change will make it easier to find Aron and earn the rewards. Additionally, players looking to evolve their Lairon into an Aggron will want to take advantage of this event to catch as many Aron as possible for their candy. In exchange, trainers must capture the specified Pokémon themselves. Trades and eggs won’t satisfy the requirements. In the event that no Aron are appearing, try using incense to improve spawn rates.
