How To Find (& Catch) Barboach In Pokémon BDSP

Barboach is a Water-Ground-type Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that can be caught in the wild and added to a player’s party and evolves into Whiscash at level 30. While Barboach is available at 17 different locations in the Sinnoh region, it has a very low spawn rate of less than 5%, so it may still be challenging to catch.

Players may encounter a wild Barboach between level 16 and level 63. Because it is a Water-type Pokémon, some Barboach can only be caught while fishing and require the Good Rod to catch it. Unfortunately, the Old Rod will not allow the player to catch a Barboach while fishing. The Good Rod in Pokémon BDSP can be obtained by players from the fisherman standing on the dock as the player exits Hearthome City on Route 209. Upon interacting with him, he will gift the player a Good Rod at no cost.

The Super Rod, the best fishing rod in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, can be acquired from the fisherman near the Route 225 gate in the Fight Area. The fisherman is standing just north of the docks in the Fight Area, near one of the exits. Of note, players will need to first obtain the National Pokédex to acquire the Super Rod. The Super Rod is used to catch wild Whiscash and other rare Water-type Pokémon.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl – Where To Find Barboach

Barboach can be caught in the morning, during the day, and at night in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Players will have an opportunity to catch Barboach fishing along Routes 228, 227, 212, 210, 208, and 205. Barboach can also be caught using the Good Rod, while Whiscash can only be caught by using the Super Rod by fishing at the Ravaged Path, Oreburgh Gate, Mt. Coronet, the Great Marsh, Eterna City, and Celestic Town. Even using the Super Rod, players should note Whiscash also has a low spawn rate.

Barboach can also be found on land while exploring the Swampy Cave, Still-Water Cavern, Riverbank Cave, Fountainspring Cave, and Bogsunk Cavern in the Grand Underground. To find Barboach at any of these locations, players must first obtain TM96, the move Strength. In addition, for Whiscash to appear in these locations, players will need to acquire TM99, the move Waterfall.

Players should travel down Route 209 to the Lost Tower in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl to find the TM for Strength. Once inside the tower on the top floor, players will find an old woman who will gift them TM96. The TM for Waterfall can be acquired after players defeat the Sunyshore gym leader, Volkner. Once defeated, players should head north of Sunshore’s Pokémon Center until they reach a small beach. There, a woman named Jasmine will give them TM99.

Once players find a wild Barboach, they will still need to catch it. Barboach has a catch rate of 24.8% with a regular Pokéball. To increase the odds of catching Barboach, players may want to use a ball with better odds, such as a Great Ball, Ultra Ball, or Master Ball, which increases the chance of catching a Pokémon over a regular Pokéball. The Net Ball is also a good option for capturing Water-type Pokémon such as Barboach.
