How to Find (& Catch) Emolga for Unova Week in Pokémon GO

Emolga is now coming to Pokémon GO during Unova Week, so players will have a chance to add this unique Pokémon to their team. Ever since the popularity of Pikachu in the first Pokémon games, there has been some sort of Electric rodent introduced in every new generation of the series. In the 5th generation games, Black and White, this came in the form of Emolga, a flying squirrel-like creature.

Not only is this Pokémon an Electric-type like the iconic predecessor, but it’s also a Flying-type. Very few Pokémon have this combination, so it’s a useful niche with a lot of resistances and very few weaknesses. It learns moves like Thundershock and Aerial Ace, giving it unique type coverage. This guide will look at all the ways players can catch Emolga in Pokémon Go’s Unova week.

Where to find Emolga in Pokémon GO

Let’s analyze Emolga’s typing, and how that affects where they appear. Electric types have a tendency to appear in urban environments, likely because the abundance of electricity makes those places hospitable for them. College campuses and cities are locations where Electric types have a higher chance to appear. For those living in the country, they’ll have a chance to find Emolga thanks to its Flying typing. This type can be found flying around farms and open fields. On top of that, there’s weather to consider, which changes what types of Pokémon appear more frequently. Electric types appear more often when it’s raining, and Flying types come when it’s windy, so Emolga can appear during more adverse weather conditions.

Emolga’s chances of appearing are also altered by the Unova event. They have an increased spawn rate during this event, so players will have increased odds of finding them. Emolga can also be hatched from 7k eggs, which are yellow with pink spots. As usual, eggs can be sometimes found when spinning Pokéstops. Emolga has no unevolved form so, unlike Pokémon like Toxicroak, it can’t be obtained by evolving another Pokémon using candies. Once players find an Emolga, they can catch it as they would any other Pokémon in Pokémon GO. A berry to increase catching odds and a well-timed throw, and this Pokémon is caught. Or, if players are only looking for Emolga to complete their Pokédex, they can have a friend trade it to them.
