Pokémon GO is one of the most popular mobile games in the world and has a huge variety of Pokémon for players to catch. Ho-oh is a legendary bird Pokémon that first appeared all the way back in the second generation of Pokémon games.
Ho-Oh is a dual fire/flying-type Pokémon and seems to be inspired by the mythological phoenix. Its name probably comes from what players exclaim when they finally catch one. Those wishing to catch a Ho-Oh cannot simply do so by walking around. They will need to prepare.
Where to Find Ho-Oh in Pokémon GO
Ho-Oh appears in five-star raids. These only occur at certain times and only happen within a gym. It is recommended that at least five players are present, and probably more. A skilled group can do it with fewer people, but soloing a five-star raid is next to impossible.
Players can meet up with friends or others in their area. There are various groups for specific cities, and can most commonly be found on Discord, Reddit, or Facebook. Finding them generally isn’t difficult for players willing to spend a couple of minutes searching for groups in their city. The other nice thing is that players can coordinate with each other. If there is a Ho-Oh raid happening somewhere nearby, players can notify each other. This provides better knowledge of what is happening in the surrounding area.
A new feature in Pokémon GO is the Remote Raid Pass, which allows players to fight in a raid without having to be in the immediate vicinity of the gym. Players do still need to be somewhat close though. A player in the United States would not be able to join a raid in Japan, for instance. Unless they are good enough friends with someone.
Fighting and Catching Ho-Oh in Pokémon GO
As the Ho-Oh is a formidable opponent, players will need to capitalize on its weaknesses to bring it down. As it is a fire/flying-type, players might think water and electric-type moves are most effective against Ho-Oh, and indeed they are super effective. However, both fire and flying are weak to rock-type moves, so they will deal four times as much damage. Something like a Tyranitar or a Golem would be useful in this situation.
Once players have whittled down the Ho-Oh’s health, it is time to try to capture it. When trying to capture the Pokémon, be sure to use golden razz berries., as it makes the Pokémon easier to catch. Curveballs also increase the chances of catching it, as well as getting excellent throws. Even with all these, the chance to catch the Ho-Oh is very low. It is entirely likely to not catch it at all. Yes, it can be frustrating. If this happens, then players will just have to try another raid at a later time.
