How To Find (& Catch) Luvdisc In Pokémon BDSP

Luvdisc is one of 493 Pokémon trainers can find and catch in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl once they obtain the National PokéDex. Luvdisc is a pure Water-Type Pokémon shaped like a heart, and its entry in the PokéDex states that couples who find this Pokémon are blessed with eternal love. This Pokémon is definitely a lover, not a fighter, but their unique characteristics make them worth the catch.

Unfortunately, Luvdisc isn’t very viable in battle since all of its stats are low compared to other Water-Types, aside from its Speed, which is solidly average. However, Luvdisc is at its best in the rain since it also has the Swift Swim ability, which increases the Pokémon’s Speed stat when it’s raining, as well as the hidden ability Hydration, which allows it to heal its status conditions when it’s raining. Despite the improvements in rainy weather, Luvdisc is unlikely to hold up as an attacker or defender and is better for protecting the team against status conditions as it can learn Safeguard at level 49. Its move pool is relatively small, but trainers who want to include Luvdisc on their team will be able to teach it Rain Dance from TM18 to cause it to rain and boost Luvdisc’s stats.

However, while Luvdisc isn’t the best Pokémon to send out in battle, each one has about a 50% of holding a Heart Scale in the wild, which is a rare and useful item that trainers can use to teach their Pokémon moves from Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Move Reminder. Heart Scales can also be found while digging in the Grand Underground, but their rarity and size make them difficult to find, so players may prefer to take their chances searching for a Luvdisc. The Move Reminder is located in Pastoria City and will teach a Pokémon any move it can learn by leveling in exchange for a Heart Scale, making Heart Scales a must-have item for trainers who want to make changes to a Pokémon’s move set.

Where To Find Luvdisc In Pokémon BDSP

Luvdisc can be found on Route 224 and Victory Road in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Trainers will have to use the Super Rod to fish at bodies of water at these locations to encounter Luvdisc, but it’s a rare catch with a spawn rate of only 5%. The Super Rod can be obtained by speaking to the fisherman right in front of the entrance to Route 225 in the Battle Park area, which players can reach after defeating the Pokémon League and unlocking the National PokéDex.

Luvdisc’s Water Type makes it weak to Grass and Electric-Types but strong against Fire, Water, Steel, and Ice, so trainers will be able to chip away at its health with these types of moves to avoid making it faint. The move ‘False Swipe’ can also be used to drop Luvdisc’s health to 1 without causing it to faint so trainers can have the best possible chance of catching it. Net Balls will be the most effective Poké Ball to use since they’re better than Ultra Balls when used against Water-Type Pokémon, and with their cheaper price tag, trainers can stock up and catch enough Luvdisc to collect plenty of Heart Scales.
