How To Find (& Catch) Sirfetchd in Pokémon Sword & Shield

Sirfetch’d is a new evolution introduced in Pokémon Sword & Shield for Galarian Farfetch’d, a regional variant for one of the original Pokémon in the series. Many fans had wanted a new evolution for Farfetch’d for a long time, and the Sword & Shield games have finally granted that wish. Unlike the original Farfetch’d, a Normal and Flying-type, it’s Galarian iteration and Sirfetch’d evolution are pure fighting types. Their iconic leak grows to an immense length, which they use as a sword.

Though Sirfetch’d is a bit slow, it makes for that weakness by having an impressive attack stat and balanced defenses. Their pool of moves they can learn covers many different types: Leaf Blade, Knock Off, Poison Jab, Brave Bird, and Close Combat, to name a few. Sirfetch’d also has a signature move, Meteor Assault, which has high strength but causes Sirfetch’d to rest on the next turn. For those looking to add this gallant fighting type to their team, here’s a guide on how to acquire one.

Obtaining Sirfetch’d in Pokémon Sword & Shield

An important detail about Sirfetch’d is that they are exclusive to Sword version; those with Shield can only obtain it through a trade. That said, Sirfetch’d are already a rare Pokémon and cannot be found anywhere in the wild. They can be battled and caught in max raid battles at North Lake Miloch, Stony Wilderness, and Dusty Bowl. The easier method to obtain one is to evolve a Galarian Farfetch’d, which are found on Route 5, between Turffield and Hulberry, or at the Giant’s Mirror wild area while the weather is overcast. They aren’t very high leveled on Route 5, around level 20, so simply hitting them with a non-lethal move to lower their HP and inflicting a status condition will do the trick.

The trickiest part of obtaining Sirfetch’d isn’t catching its pre-evolution, but evolving it. Galarian Farfetch’d can evolve at any level, but only after dealing three critical hits in a single battle. This can be troubling, as critical hits only occur by RNG, but there are a few ways to improve these chances. Galarian Farfetch’d will have a 50/50 chance of holding a Leek when caught, an item that improves their critical hit chance when held. It may be wise to catch multiple Galarian Farfetch’d until one with a Leek is found, or steal it with the Thief move. The move Focus Energy, which can be found in Motostoke city or by beating Max Raid battles, improves critical hit further. Because these can be hard to come by, use Dire Hit, a battle item that has the same effect. Once ready, find an opponent for the Galarian Farfetch’d to duel. Don’t fight anything it’s weak to, like Psychic, Fairy or Flying, or it may be defeated. While players might think to use moves that have high critical hit chance, like Slash or Leaf Blade, it will also end the battle; because the Farfetch’d must hit three critical hits in a single battle, ending the battle will prevent that from occurring. Instead, teach the Farfetch’d False Swipe, a move that cannot fell opponents, so that the player can continue attacking the target until the three critical hit criteria is met.
