How to Find (& Catch) Tentacruel in Pokémon Sword & Shield

Tentacruel is a classic Pokemon from the first generation that appears in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This guide will help players find and capture this Water/Poison-type Pokemon. Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Galar region takes inspiration from United Kingdom culture. This includes a heavy emphasis on sport spectating, rock music, Pokemon based on rockstars and athletes, and the bigger locations of the region are based on London. The game takes its time to set up its own world and culture. There is even a Ghost-type Pokemon that is a haunted teacup. Although, older Pokemon from previous generations have made the return due to DLC. Here’s how players can find Tentacruel in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

Tentacruel has been around the Pokemon series since Pokemon Red and Blue. While it is not known for any popular roles like in the Pokemon anime or other forms of media, it does have a reputation in the Pokemon series. It would occasionally stop trainers in their tracks every chance the trainer steps into a body of water. Without a repel, players will encounter a Tentacool or a Tentacruel without fail. It can be a truly grueling experience. Although in Pokemon Sword & Shield, players won’t have to worry about repels to avoid them. Here’s where players can find Tentacruel in the game.

Where To Find Tentacruel in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Tentacruel can only be found if the player has the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass. Otherwise, the player will need to trade with a trainer that owns one or bring one over from Pokemon Home. Finding a Tentacruel is actually fairly simple on the Isle of Armor. Players can find this Pokemon in the Fields of Honor, Challenge Beach, Courageous Cavern, Loop Lagoon, Workout Sea, Stepping-Stone Sea, Insular Sea, Honeycalm Sea, and Honeycalm Island. All of these locations have a mixed 5% to 30% encounter rate.

The best place to find one will be in the Honeycalm Sea by interacting with a Non-Overworld Spawn. It has a 100% chance of appearing in any type of weather. It will be level 60 during the encounter. Make sure to bring a Pokemon with the move Thunder Wave to make it easier to capture. Also, trainers can use Quick Balls on the first turn for the fastest turn-around. Tentacruel is now officially a part of the player’s collection.

Pokemon Sword & Shield will release the second half of its expansion pass this Fall. The Crown Tundra will provide over 100 older Pokemon from previous generations, new legendary Pokemon, and new story content. This is acting as this generation’s “third” definitive version. This marks the first time in series history where a mainline title has received paid DLC. Pokemon Sword & Shield is one of the best selling games on the Nintendo Switch.
