Season 3 of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War has added plenty of new features to the game. Players can easily unlock Season 3’s poster character, Wraith, and two new weapons featured in the battle pass. Cold War Season 3 has also added Zombie Mode weapon unlock challenges into the game for players that have missed out on previous battle passes. However, these aren’t the most interesting features new to Season 3.

Activision, as a video game company, has been around for a long time. They’ve decided to harken back to their roots and include some past arcade games in their latest Call of Duty title. Arcades were wildly popular in the 1980s, and to fit the theme of the Cold War, developers have added these mini-games to give players a break from the competitive nature of multiplayer. This guide will explain where to find arcade games in Black Ops Cold War and how to play them.

Black Ops Cold War: How to Play Arcade Games.

To play arcade games in Black Ops: Cold War, players must scroll over to Barracks and down to Arcade. Here, players will have 10 different old-school arcade games to choose from. Before, players were only able to play these games in the Black Ops campaign. Now, they can access them right from the menu. Here is a list of all the available arcade games with a brief description of how they play.

  • Barnstorming: (1982) Hold and release the throttle while moving up and down to avoid obstacles as players fly their single-pilot plane across vast 2D farmland. Aim to fly through the barns below to increase your score, and be sure to avoid windmills and birds overhead.
  • Boxing: (1980) Move around to line up punches and sock opponents in the face. Hold the punch button to unleash combo punches. The player to land the most punches when time runs out wins the match.
  • Chopper Command (1982) Take command of an army helicopter in this 2D side-scroller to shoot enemies out of the sky. Players can shoot single-fire or hold the shoot button to use continuous fire. With 4 difficulty modes, Cadet to Commander, this arcade game is actually pretty difficult.
  • Enduro (1983) Hit the gas and avoid other cars as players race to see who can pass the most cars and set the high score.
  • Fishing Derby (1980) Compete against the CPU to see who can catch the most fish and avoid the shark lurking at the surface. Deeper fish are worth more points. The first to 99 points wins!
  • Grand Prix (1982) Like Enduro, players will put the pedal to the metal as they pass other racers to be the first to the finish line. With multiple courses to choose from, Grand Prix will provide plenty of entertainment. Watch out! Don’t crash into other racers.
  • Kaboom! (1981) Don’t let the bombs explode! Players will move their bucket of water from side to side to catch incoming bombs dropped by the mad bomber. As the rounds increase, the game gets harder and harder.
  • Pitfall (1982) Players will navigate a forgotten jungle as they avoid obstacles and certain death. This Super Mario-like game will have players searching for hidden treasures throughout their journey.
  • Pitfall 2 (1984) The follow-up to 1982’s revolutionary adventure game has players exploring horizontal and vertical planes on their quest to find Rhonda, Quickdraw, and the Raj Diamond.
  • River Raid (1982), in the same vein as Chopper Command, players will be controlling a fighter jet as they patrol the open waters in this vertical-scrolling arcade game. Shoot down enemy aircraft and keep an eye on the plane’s fuel level. Players can pick up more fuel along the way.

It’s amusing to think that these titles were some of the most revolutionary titles in gaming at the time. It’s humbling to see how far video games have come, especially ones produced by Activision.
