With the announcement of the next expansion titled Endwalker, Final Fantasy 14 has been exploding with both returning and brand new players. The expansion will bring in a new healer and another unnamed combat job that both start at base level 70, placing them right at the tail end of Stormblood’s content. That is also the first expansion free trial players can experience when upgrading their accounts to a fully paid subscription. This will put a huge amount of the community hunting for gear progression at around level 70.

Stormblood has a lot of various options to upgrade gear, ranging from raids, dungeons, crafting, and relic creation. The expansion also uses heavy references to older Final Fantasy titles, including the land of Ivalice from Final Fantasy Tactics, Doma from Final Fantasy VI, and Eureka from Final Fantasy III.

Job Quests

Completing a job’s level 70 quest will reward a coffer containing a full set of item level 290 equipment, including the main weapons. This only holds true to jobs originally available in Stormblood and wasn’t updated for the Shadowbringers jobs Gunbreaker and Dancer; it is likely that this will also be the case for Endwalker’s jobs. The gear is iconic armor for the job, giving them a unique style. However, this also means it can’t be used across the same role and multiple suits will take up lots of storage space. This antique job gear isn’t the strongest but is more than enough to complete Stormblood’s main story.

Main Story

Heading through Stormblood’s patch story content will lead to the final dungeon The Ghimlyt Dark. Parties must be at least item level 360 to enter, while the chests and bosses within reward random item level 375 Alliance equipment. Additionally, playing through the story of 4.1 and 4.2 will eventually reward a single set of item level 370 Dai-ryumyaku accessories and another set of armor. Players can mix and match the proceeding two sets, as well as buy more sets from Rowena’s House of Splendors for Tomestones of Poetics.

The Four Lords

The Four Lords is the Primal related sidequest in the same vein as The Warring Triad from Heavensward. Players will need to complete the 4.2 main story quest Hope in the Waves. This will unlock the quest An Auspicious Encounter from Soroban in the Ruby Sea x:5.5, y:16. This story will lead through two dungeons, Hell’s Lid and The Swallow’s Compass, which drop item level 325 and 345, respectively. This will also unlock trial battles against Byakko, Suzaku, and Seiryu. Their normal modes do not give anything, but the extreme versions reward weapons of item level 355, 385, and 395, respectively.

Deep Dungeon

Heaven-on-High is the version of Deep Dungeon available in the Ruby Sea. Players must be level 61, while the dungeon uses a special instance that allows those to level up to 70 inside. After clearing floor 30, players will gain the ability to purchase “grips”. However, each grip will weaken weapons and armor within Heaven-on-High by 10 power. 10 grips in total will be needed to purchase a single item level 365 Empyrean weapon, which means players will need to build up and drain 100 power from their Heaven-on-High instanced equipment.

Eureka the Forbidden Land

Eureka is an entire zone with its own elemental experience points, along with special armor and relic weapons. Players can unlock the zone via the quest And We Shall Call It Eureka from Galiena in Rhalgr’s Reach x:10, y:12.5. Players will need to explore four separate maps: Aenemos, Pagos, Pyros, and Hydatos. Enemies and FATEs in Aenemos drop Protean crystals that can upgrade the antique job gear to item level 340 for 200 crystals a piece (1,000 Protean crystals per job). A new set of item level 380 Elemental armor can be purchased for 40 Pyros crystals a piece (200 total). It can then be upgraded to item level 390 for 30 Hydatos crystals for helm/gloves/boots and 50 for body and legs (180 total).

Players can also make Eurekan weapons ranging from item level 355 to 405. For the full upgrades, players will need to collect 1,300 Protean crystals, 500 Pagos crystals, 650 Pyros crystals, 350 Hydatos crystals, complete the FATEs Wail of Willows three times, Louhi on Ice five times, Lost Epic five times, and Crystalline Provenance five times. Players will also need to clear the 56-man raid The Baldesion Arsenal to collect 100 Eureka Fragments. As Eureka is older content, players will likely need to manually organize this raid with their Free Company or Linkshells.

Omega Raid

Omega is the ultimate single-party raid in Stormblood. This questline can be started by the quest The Hunt for Omega from Wedge at Rhalgr’s Reach x:12.5, y:12.5 after completing the expansion’s base main story. Players will journey against mainstay Final Fantasy villains including Chaos, Exdeath, and Kefka. The three tiers of Deltascape, Sigmascape, and Alphascape reward tokens can be turned in for item level 320, 350, and 380 equipment. After completing each tier, the savage difficulty can be challenged.

This is the hardest content in Stormblood, and may even be dangerous when removing level sync via an undersized party. But, completion will give item level 340, 370, and 400 armor; weapons have an extra five levels for 345, 375, and 405. This means that they will outperform most other options when heading into Shadowbringers. Additionally, if Omega bosses don’t drop the desired piece directly, they will also give out datalogs that can be exchanged to Gelfradus in Rhalgr’s Reach or Rowena’s Representative in Kugane.

Return to Ivalice

For those looking for an easier raid, Return to Ivalice allows for a full 24-man alliance to take on large raids. This can be started by the quest Dramatis Personae from Keiten in Kugane x:12, y:12.2. The raid series includes The Royal City of Rabanastre, The Ridorana Lighthouse, and The Obronne Monstery. These drop item level 330, 360, and 390 armor but no weapons or accessories. Completing these at least once is also needed to start on Shadowbringer’s endgame relic weapons and head through a story inspired by Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy XII.

Purchased Equipment in Final Fantasy 14

Scaevan Poetics

Allagan Tomestones of Poetics can be used to purchase item level 400 Augmented Scaevan weapons and armor. These are automatically enhanced, making old upgrade items from Ivalice and Omega pointless. Players still holding un-upgraded item level 390 Scaevan gear can spend extra Poetics to turn them into Augmented version. Items can be bought in Rhalgr’s Reach from Enna (armor) and Eschina (weapons), or from the Rowena’s Representative in Kugane. Note that Poetics are the same currency used to buy strong armor and other goods from A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. When Endwalker releases, Poetics will likely also replace Tomestones of Revelation and be moved to purchase item level 530 Cryptlurker equipment. Players should budget accordingly or may need to farm Poetics at a later date.

Rakshasa Exchange

High-level crafters can create item level 380 Rakshasa weapons and armor. These recipes require materials from desynth, treasure maps, and the subsequent Shifting Alters of Uznair that can spawn. Once owning this equipment, players can trade them into J’tandhana in Rhalgr’s Reach for Rakshasa Tokens. Turning in enough of these tokens can grant item level 390 Yama gear. Because the rewarded tokens are based on slot (not material rarity) on some servers it may be much cheaper to forge affordable Rakshasa items and exchange for expensive Yama version.
