The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon: Sword & Shield has introduced a new method of hunting Shiny Pokémon that is easy to master and rewards players with the highest Shiny odds in the entire series. The new method of Shiny hunting also comes in the form of a new adventure mode that players are introduced to at the beginning of the DLC’s storyline. This guide will teach players how the method works and how they can have the highest chance of finding a ton of Shiny Pokémon.
Shiny Pokémon were introduced in Pokémon: Gold & Silver (Gen2). They are extremely rare color variants of Pokémon that can be encountered in a variety of ways. Back in Gen 2, and up until Gen 6, the base odds of finding a shiny were 1 in 8192. The base odds were eventually raised to 1 in 4096, and a slew of methods were released that would further increase those odds. The Shiny Charm was also introduced which is a key item that permanently lowers the base odds of encountering a Shiny, and it also affects the new method found in the Crown Tundra.
How To Shiny Hunt Pokémon In The Crown Tundra
When players start their adventure in the Crown Tundra, one of the first things they will do as part of the story is accompany Peony on a Dynamax Adventure. These Dynamax Adventures are where the shiny hunting will take place, which means that players who do not own the Crown Tundra DLC will not be able to utilize this method. Players don’t have to do anything special for this method to work. All they need to do is partake in Dynamax Adventures and catch every Pokémon they battle.
Even though players can catch four Pokémon during a Dynamax Adventure (including one guaranteed Legendary Pokémon) players will have to choose one of the four Pokémon that they want to take with them. The other three get released back into the Raid Den. When encountering a Pokémon it will not appear shiny in battle, instead, players will have to check to see if a Pokémon is shiny at the Pokémon select screen at the end of a Dynamax Adventure. If it is shiny, players can choose to take that Pokémon with them. It is important to note that if a player chooses to take a Legendary Pokémon with them, they will not be able to catch that Legendary again in the future.
It may not sound like there is much to this method, but Pokémon found in Dynamax Adventures have a 1 in 300 chance of being shiny. If players have a Shiny Charm, the odds are increased to 1 in 100. And since the player can catch four Pokémon during each adventure, they have a 1 in 25 chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon every Dynamax Adventure they complete. These odds also apply to the Legendary Pokémon found in the Raid Dens.
