Indiana Jones 5 set photos hint at a Moon landing plot point. The fifth Indiana Jones is really happening as the movie is currently shooting all over the UK. Harrison Ford returns one more time to play globetrotting adventurer Indiana Jones, but he won’t have Steven Spielberg guiding him this time around. Instead, James Mangold takes over directing duties.

It’s indeed already been an eventful shoot for Ford as the 78-year-old actor suffered a shoulder injury while performing an on-set stunt. Ford’s injury led to reports of a filming shutdown, but Mangold quickly debunked such talk, and Ford was later seen back on-set with his arm in a sling. As for the plot of Indiana Jones 5, little has been officially announced but leaked set photos are allowing fans to begin piecing things together. Already there have been glimpses of castles, tanks and Nazis – all things that have been seen in Indiana Jones movies before. Other photos have hinted at possible de-aging CGI being used on Ford, while still more photos gave fans a look at Indy’s new sidekick played by Toby Jones.

The latest leak provides one more intriguing hint about the plot of Indiana Jones 5. As revealed by the Glasgow Times, building fronts in the Scottish city are being altered by the film’s set designers to look like the 1960s (a Pan Am sign in particular gives away the time period). One especially telling image shows a sign in a window reading “Welcome Home Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins,” suggesting the scene to be shot in this location depicts the ticker tape parade thrown in New York City on August 13, 1969 for the returning Apollo 11 astronauts after their historic mission to the Moon.

The Moon landing angle teased here is not a revelation so much as a confirmation, as it was previously rumored there would be a space race element to the Indiana Jones 5 story. Of course, previous leaks have also confirmed a World War II setting and hinted at Ford being de-aged to play a younger Indiana Jones. Add everything up and there’s even more evidence now that Indiana Jones 5 will jump around in time. What isn’t known yet is the specific story that will be told across these varying time periods. Jumping around in time would indeed be a new wrinkle for Indiana Jones as the series hasn’t done much in the way of flashbacks previously, the one big exception being the River Phoenix-starring young Indy prologue in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Telling a story spread across several time periods would indeed give Indiana Jones 5 a different feel than previous entries in the franchise. It remains to be seen how much of the film will be set in each time period, but it’s safe to assume the World War II sequences will be kept to a minimum given the expense of de-aging Ford. It’s then also safe to assume a big chunk of the movie will be set in 1969 around the time of the Moon landing. But how will the space race actually play into the story? And is there a chance Indiana Jones himself will end up being launched into orbit (not in a fridge but an actual capsule)? Adding sci-fi to Indiana Jones didn’t work very well when it was tried in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so it would probably be wise for Mangold and company to keep Indiana Jones 5 earthbound. Indiana Jones meeting Neil Armstrong and the other Apollo 11 astronauts might however be a fun little Forrest Gump moment, not too different from Jones briefly running into Hitler in Last Crusade.
