Apple’s iOS 14.2 update for iPhone adds ‘Shazam’ to the Control Center, allowing users to easily identify new songs. While the music identifying app is already extremely successful, this update will make it even more streamlined and will further integrate the app into Apple’s software.
The ‘Shazam’ app was created in 2008 allowing users to identify songs that were playing nearby. This meant that if there was a song playing on a radio station or in a store users could use ‘Shazam’ to find the name of the song as well as the artist. The app quickly became a success and in 2014 was integrated into Apple’s voice assistant ‘Siri’ with iOS 8. This allowed users to ask Siri the name of a song and it would identify it, and would even suggest the song in iTunes under the Siri tab. Apple then officially acquired the app in December of 2017
The new iOS 14.2 update will make ‘Shazam’ even easier to use. As explained by MacRumors, the update allow users to add ‘Shazam’ to the Control Center on their iPhone, further integrating the app into the iOS experience. The new feature is added as a ‘Music Recognition’ control and not only recognizes music near the user, but also in apps as well. Users will be notified of songs via a banner, and the feature even works when wearing AirPods.
How To Use Music Recognition Feature
The setup process appears to be a fairly simple one. In order to add the Music Recognition feature, navigate to the Control Center options in the settings app. From their users can select to add the feature to the Control Center or remove if they no longer want it there. Once added, swipe down and click the Shazam icon and once activated, the feature will start to recognize the music near the user. Once the song is shown, users can click on the notification and choose to listen to it on their favorite music streaming service.
Once rolled out to everyone, the feature will be much easier than before, as the new way is more accessible than going into the Shazam app or asking Siri. The feature is still being tested for bugs by developers which is possibly why it was not included with the iOS 14 update released a few days ago. Instead, Apple device owners should expect it to arrive when the iOS 14.2 update makes its way out to everyone.
