Are The Hunger Games movies available to stream on Netflix? The Hunger Games series is based on the best-selling books by author Suzanne Collins and follow protagonist Katniss Everdeen. The movies take place in a dystopian future where Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) becomes a rebel and symbol of hope after being forced to take part in the titular games, which are a televised death sport.

Both The Hunger Games and X-Men: First Class would propel Jennifer Lawrence to movie stardom. The franchise came to a close in 2015 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, which gave Katniss something of a much-deserved happy ending. The franchise also kicked off a wave of YA adaptations, including The Maze Runner trilogy and the Divergent series. Sadly for fans of the latter franchise, the grosses for the third movie The Divergent Series: Allegiant proved so underwhelming the planned final entry Ascendant was eventually canceled.

Even The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, which was still a big success, became the lowest-grossing of the series due to a decline in popularity for YA blockbusters. The franchise still has a big fanbase, but unfortunately, none of the four movies are currently available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.

While some entries like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire were once available on the service, they were removed following the expiration of a deal between Netflix and Epix in 2015. All The Hunger Games movies are available to watch on Netflix in parts of the world like the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan, however. For fans in North America, the series can be rented or purchased from services like iTunes or Amazon Prime.

While The Hunger Games movie franchise is currently taking a break Suzanne Collins is working on a prequel novel set for publication in 2020. This story will take place during the 10th Hunger Games, which place it over 60 years before the events of the original series. Studio Lionsgate is said to be keen to make a movie adaptation of the book, though given the timeline that makes it extremely unlikely Jennifer Lawrence will appear. The actress has expressed little desire to return following the final movie either. Given the fact the movies have grossed close to $3 billion worldwide, it makes sense the studio would be eager for the series to continue, so hopefully, the forthcoming prequel will be a worthy expansion of the story. Whether or not fans will be interested in a plot that doesn’t have Katniss at the forefront is another question.
