Japanese candy company Kanro has announced a brand new, rebranded version of their popular “Pikachu Pure Gumi” Pokémon-themed gummy candies.
Kanro is a Japanese candy company that made headlines earlier this year when they announced a collaboration with The Pokémon Company to create some yummy Pokémon-themed gummy candies. The Pokémon-themed treat was released as a new flavor in their Pure Gumi candy line: the “Tropical” flavor. According to advertisements, the flavor was a combination of tropical fruits, such as pineapple, banana, and mango. Additionally, the new candies would come in the adorable shape of Pikachu!
The candies were such a hit that, after their release last month, interested customers immediately flocked to buy them. The demand became so high that many consumers reported to Kanro that the Pikachu candies were impossible to find. The company, who had not been anticipating such an intense demand, apologized to customers and assured them to be patient; however, some scalpers took this oversight as a business opportunity.
Using different reselling apps and websites, scalpers began listing the Pikachu-shaped gummies demanding high prices for these usually cheap sets.
Luckily, it seems people won’t need to rely on re-sellers to obtain their adorable Pokémon-shaped candy, as Kanro has just announced more Pikachu gummies are on the way.
The Pikachu Pure Gumi candies have now been rebranded as “Pikachu Lighting Attack Tropical Flavor Pure Gumi 2” and features brand new packaging showcasing a Pikachu collage on each bag. The new gummies will still retain their original Tropical flavor and be shaped like Pikachu; however, lucky customers can try to find a uniquely shaped gummy of a female Pikachu with a heart-shaped tail.
The new gummies will be available beginning July 21 in Japan and will retail for 150 yen.
Additionally, Kanro has announced that these Pikachu gummies can be found in other Pure Gumi candy bags for a limited time only. Customers who are hoping to find some hidden Pikachu candy should look for a small printed footprint design on the top righthand corner of other Pure Gumi flavors for a chance to find a bag with Pokémon gummies.
