Bad Robot produces every J.J. Abrams production across TV and film, and now the plucky logo of the company has been immortalized in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Director J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, has been producing movies and television shows since 2001’s Alias, the Jennifer Garner-led spy thriller series. To this day, all of Abrams’ works, and pretty much everything associated with the filmmaker, has been bookended with the logo of a red robot running across a field before posing for a close-up.

Though Abrams started out working in the television field, he quickly became one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed blockbuster film directors. After making his feature debut with Mission: Impossible III (which leveraged his work on Alias to add a new spin to the Tom Cruise action franchise), the director revived the Star Trek brand with a pair of successful films, before moving to tackles the biggest sci-fi franchise of them all, Star Wars.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office, earning a staggering $936 million. Worldwide, that figure ballooned to over $2 billion, trailing only Avatar in terms of global box office dominance. For the final entry in the sequel trilogy, Abrams returned to the director’s chair, following the departure of the initial choice, Colin Trevorrow. For this grand finale, the production team included a very special Easter egg pertaining to the Bad Robot production company. The making-of documentary included on the home media release features a shot of the Bad Robot logo appearing in Babu Frik’s workshop. Take a look at an image below:

The bonus features on the home video release of The Rise of Skywalker include numerous behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the movie. One of the videos includes an extensive look at Babu Frick’s workshop, showing a huge pile of broken-down droids. One of the droids is a familiar, red, box-headed figure: the Bad Robot mascot. Alas, the robot itself doesn’t seem to appear in the final release of The Rise of Skywalker, but it was nonetheless created as part of the movie, and that’s enough for some fans to consider it part of the official canon of the saga.

Even though the Bad Robot droid didn’t make it into the final cut of the film, it’s still nice to see a full-size prop of the machine appear in Star Wars, even if it was removed from the finished movie. There’s always debate over whether content removed from, or unseen in, a work of art can be considered canon (something exemplified by the ambiguous fate of Jedi Master Shaak Ti), but it’s still really cool that such a unique Easter egg was made, even if it’s relegated to behind-the-scenes features on the home video release.
