The competition in Teamfight Tactics this weekend at the conclusion of Twitch Rivals was nothing short of stunning, with Cloud9’s Juan “Jschritte” Freitas rising up though the Open Qualifiers to earn him a spot in the finals. In the concluding, single-elimination format matches, Jschritte overcame some of the best players in the world, including Rumay “itsHafu” Wang, Jeremy “Disguised Toast“ Wang, David “dogdog” Caero, Brian “Kibler” Kibler, and many more.

Jschritte, a well-known Brazilian streamer, dominated the competition with an aggressive composition using the four Wild Champions, three Assassins and three Shapeshifters. Anyone who is interested in watching expert level play should check out all his previous matches leading up to the final stages of 64 players. It becomes clear when watching Jschritte play that he can quickly shift his entire game plan based on the decisions made by his opponent. Other players went with a more stubborn game plan, standing by their compositions with little changes made based on their opponent’s moves, and this gave Jschritte the edge to win.

The victory is exactly the kind of success story that is sure to inspire other players. Jschritte’s tweet shows his determination, but also the amount of work needed to reach the top spot. Since he did not have a guaranteed spot to compete in the finals, he needed to grind his way through ten hours of play to enter the final brackets.

Taking a look at the top eight finishers reveals a long list of outstanding players, many of which are constantly in the Teamfight Tactics scene and should continue to pop up in the future.

The streams for most of the Teamfight Tactics matches may have been overshadowed by League of Legends, which was running concurrently, but it is still worth a rewatch of the VODs to see some high-level play.

Overall, the conclusion of Teamfight Tactics Twitch Rivals at TwitchCon 2019 went about as well as it could have. An underdog story is sure to inspire players from all over the world to give it their best shot, and Riot Games has already committed to continue developing the game in the future.

Congratulations to Jschritte for his domination this weekend!
