Although it only premiered in 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen quickly established itself as one of the most popular new shonen anime. Fans point to its intricate world, amazing animation, and stellar soundtrack as some of the main reasons for its early success.

Despite its popularity, there are a number of things about the series that fans find confusing. From its intricate power system to the quick pace of the story that leads to rushed explanations, there are a few things in the anime that are difficult to comprehend.

During the Goodwill Event, Aoi teaches Yuji how to use Black Flash, a special kind of attack that delivers the user’s cursed energy in fractions of a second. Upon impact, the technique causes a reaction that amplifies the force of the base hit to the power of 2.5.

While the exponential element of the technique makes sense, what is less clear is how the technique itself functions on an atomic level. Even Satoru Gojo is unable to use it consistently, so the technique must require an incredible understanding of how to manipulate cursed energy. So far, the exact mechanism that causes energy to flash backward is unclear, as is how the admittedly talented Yuji was able to learn such a complex technique in the space of an afternoon.

Some fans speculate that it functions like an antimatter explosion, but if that were the case it would also release incredible amounts of deadly gamma radiation into the environment. It’s also not clear how Gojo is able to control such an unstable technique, which effectively functions like a black hole, or why the two forces don’t simply cancel each other.

8 The Limits Of Gojo’s Powers

Gojo is so powerful that he can manipulate the space around him and neutralize any incoming attack by slowing it down to an almost standstill upon coming in contact with the infinity that surrounds him. While this technique makes sense, it’s not clear what the limits of its reach are.

When Jogo traps Gojo and Yuji in his domain expansion, Yuji does not immediately catch on fire. This implies that he was under the protection of Gojo’s technique, but it’s not clear. Additionally, while Gojo is able to use cursed energy reversal to heal himself, he cannot use it on others. This seems strange, given his incredible mental prowess and the fact that the technique should function the same regardless of the target, at least in theory.

A smaller instrument, such as a ukelele or handheld drum, would be much more portable and just as effective.

6 Cursed Objects Cannot Be Destroyed

There are many cursed objects in the series, such as Sukuna’s fingers and the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. But unlike fully formed Curses, they cannot be destroyed, only sealed. This detail provides sufficient plot armor, but it still doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Sealing cursed objects does not completely remove the threat they pose, as demonstrated when one of Sukuna’s fingers is discovered at Yuji’s former school. The logical conclusion is to feed the objects to low-level Curses, put them into a vessel, and then eliminate the Curse. While certainly dangerous, it seems far less risky than keeping them indefinitely in the hopes that they never cause harm to humanity.

5 How Megumi’s Shikigami Share Power

According to Megumi, his Ten Shadows Technique stipulates that he can only have control over ten shikigami at any one time. In the case that a shikigami is destroyed, its powers transfer to another shikigami, but this process has not been fully explained.

For example, when the White Divine Dog dies, its power is transferred solely to the Black Divine Dog, creating Divine Dog: Totality. However, no such transfer is seen to take place when his Great Serpent is destroyed by Sukuna. Additionally, it’s unclear if the shikigami each get fractionally stronger when one dies, or if Megumi can choose where to redistribute the deceased shikigami’s power.

4 Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration Allows Him To Shape Souls Into Soulless Objects

Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration Technique allows him to reshape the souls of anyone he touches into whatever form he desires. However, it’s not clear how his ability is able to mimic the properties of objects that lack a soul.

While he can turn his arms into blades, that doesn’t mean that they should necessarily be as sharp or as durable as swords. Similarly, although he has a full understanding of how to shape living things, this knowledge should not necessarily extend to more complex inanimate objects, such as a drill. His ability to give souls aspects of the soulless means his power is much more complex than originally conceived, which also makes Mahito a more dangerous foe.

3 The Differences Between Domains

In total, four different domains types have been introduced over the course of the series, but the distinctions between them tend to blur together.

An innate domain is created with pure cursed energy but lacks an imbued cursed technique. A domain expansion is an innate domain enclosed by a barrier that traps targets inside, while a simple domain is used to counter a domain expansion. Then there is an incomplete domain, such as Megumi’s Chimera Shadow Garden, but it’s not as if it’s the lack of a barrier or a defined technique that makes a domain incomplete. Overall, there’s just a lot of questions surrounding domains in the anime that remain unanswered.

2 The Way Domains Interact With Each Other

In addition to there being many types of domains, there are also many iterations of how domains interact with each other. Gojo demonstrates that the best way to defeat a powerful domain expansion is with an even more powerful domain expansion, but this is an oversimplification.

What is less clear is how two even matches domains would interact with each other if both were used at the same time. Additionally, simple domains ignore the rule that states a stronger domain expansion will overpower a weaker domain. By allowing the simple domain to exist and even neutralize techniques within a domain expansion, it circumvents the most powerful aspect of what is supposed to be the best application of cursed energy.

1 Toge’s Imaginary Language Is Hilarious But Impractical

Due to his fantastic Cursed Speech Technique, Toge Inumaki uses a coded language to communicate with others. His language uses popular fillings for rice balls to represent different thoughts and actions. And while it is hilarious, it’s also rather impractical.

Since Toge’s technique is only activated when he uses commands, specifically any verb, he should theoretically be able to amend his speech by simply cutting out any words that could activate his speech. While this may be difficult to do given that Japanese words often have multiple meanings depending on the context in which they are used, with sufficient practice and dedication it could be done.
