Actress Kate Beckinsale has shared a health update after she suffered an injury amid filming of her latest project last week. The British-born actress got her start in smaller projects during the early 1990s before breaking out with films like The Last Days of Disco and Brokedown Palace. She then starred in romantic-interest roles in both Serendipity with John Cusack and Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor. Beckinsale is best known, however, for her role as Selene in the vampires vs. werewolves franchise, Underworld, where she played a vampire warrior.
Beckinsale went on to star in a series of box office hits and misses, including Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman, Click with Adam Sandler, Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, the comic-book adaptation Whiteout and four more films in the Underworld series. Recently, the actress starred in the Amazon Prime series The Widow and the Netflix original film Jolt. She recently wrapped the comedy El Tonto, directed by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day, and co-starring Jason Sudeikis.
While filming her latest film, Prisoner’s Daughter, in Las Vegas, Beckinsale suffered a back injury and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. No details were shared about the injury or how it happened, but Beckinsale took to Instagram to update her followers on her condition, saying she was “feeling a lot better” and thanked everyone for the “kind messages and love.” It’s unclear how much longer the actress will be hospitalized, but given her propensity for consistent social media updates, it’s likely she’ll update her status sooner than later. Prisoner’s Daughter, the film Beckinsale is currently filming in Vegas, is directed by Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke and co-stars Succession’s Brian Cox. The film is said to be about a con-man father (Cox) who tries to reconcile with his daughter (Beckinsale) and grandson after being released from prison. The film also co-stars Ghostbusters’ alum Ernie Hudson and Preacher’s Tyson Ritter.
While Prisoner’s Daughter is billed as a family drama, it’s unclear if Beckinsale would have been put in a position to be injured on set for the film, or if she was indeed on set when the injury occurred. Beckinsale is no stranger to stunts and physical performances, having starred in many action-heavy roles throughout her career thus far. That said, injuries are common on film sets no matter how many safety measures are taken, and accidents do happen from time to time. Hopefully, Beckinsale is on the mend and will be back in front of cameras in no time.
