Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Ember Labs’ stunning Pixar-esque video game, is finally available on PS4, PS5, and PC, and the reviews are in.

It’s officially video game season as release dates are starting to stack up and will continue to do so for the next couple of months. If you’re over last week’s Deathloop hype, which seems unlikely, then this week is shaping up to be a pretty busy one. Both Lost Judgment and Death Stranding Director’s Cut hit the market this Friday, but first, Kena: Bridge Of Spirits.

Ember Labs’ newest offering is out now on PS4, PS5, and PC. Even though there has been a distinct lack of hype heading down the final straight to Kena’s launch, prior to that its trailers flaunted a beautiful game reminiscent of a Disney movie. That’s all there, of course, and as outlined in our review, if you’ve been looking forward to Kena based on the trailers then it’s going to deliver.

However, there’s nothing groundbreaking about Kena, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Odds are most of you will find just about everything in the game pretty familiar. Its mechanics and features might not feel out of place in 2021, but they also wouldn’t have felt out of place five, maybe even ten years ago. Below you’ll find what we and other major sites thought of it.

Game Informer: 9/10

Dualshockers: 10/10

Destructoid: 8/10

Digital Trends: 4.5/5

While a few reviews are still in progress at this time, the scores for Kena aren’t just good, they’re very good. At the time of typing this, it is yet to score anything less than an 8/10 from any review. The overarching takeaway is that Kena reminds those who have had a chance to play it of older Zelda games, which definitely isn’t a bad thing. Its gorgeous aesthetic is mentioned more than anything else though, and rightfully so.

It might not have had the same marketing push as Deathloop or Lost Judgment, but the early scores suggest Kena might well be a sleeper hit of 2021. While it isn’t likely to clean up when it comes to everyone naming their Game of the Year a few months from now, it may well get some honorable mentions. Kena: Bridge Of Sprits is available now on PS4, PS5, and PC if you want to try it out for yourselves, and will likely come to other platforms once its timed console exclusivity ends.
