The matriarch from King of the Hill has some insecurity issues. It’s not that she has any problems with confidence, necessarily, but rather her ego getting ahead of her and putting her in threatening or even dangerous situations. Perhaps she’s tired of the mundanity of her stick-in-the-mud husband, or perhaps she’s in it for the sheer thrill, but Peggy always seems to get herself into wild situations which aren’t easily explained away.

A self-proclaimed genius, it’s rare to see a King of the Hill episode where she doesn’t say her full name with gusto or become fixated with something for the entirety of that episode. While Hank Hill shares some of these downfalls with Peggy, and she usually means well, Peggy has difficulty maintaining any self-control over her bombastic, gullible, and selfish impulses.

10 Peggy Wants Free Ice Cream

Peggy has a huge competitive streak, which also causes her to get incredibly focused on things that wouldn’t normally need anyone’s attention. In one episode, an ice cream parlor has a special where, if customers can guess their ice cream’s exact weight, they can get it for free.

Obviously, Peggy is up for the challenge and ropes Bobby into it for a humorous Rocky-esque subplot in which they train themselves to read the weight of ice cream in a cup. This takes Peggy many, many tries to the point of obsession, eventually burning out Bobby in the process. After actually spending more money than what the challenge is worth on training and attempts with the ice cream challenge, Peggy finally wins, not realizing one cup of free ice cream isn’t really worth all that hassle.

9 Peggy Impersonates a Nun

Desperate for work, Peggy takes a job as a nun teaching at a Catholic school to avoid working a lower-level position at Hank’s work. Unfortunately, Peggy doesn’t do a great job of conforming to the school’s ideals, and she later comes to regret her teachings and begins to worry that she’s corrupting the children and will end up having them sent to Hell. The guilt catches up to her, and she ends up admitting the scheme to the Mother Superior, who fires Peggy.

8 Peggy Has Road Rage Over a Bumper Sticker

Upon seeing a woman has a bumper sticker that says, “My Child is an Honor Student at Westview Elementary,” Peggy makes a face of doubt and disgust, pulls up next to the woman’s car, and exclaims, “Yeah? Well, my child is God to billions of Asians!”

The vague reasoning behind Peggy’s random and confusing boast is that during a group of monks’ search for the resurrection of a deity, Bobby is found as possibly the “chosen one.” Although calling it “hooey” at first, Peggy still lets this get to her head.

7 Peggy Teaches Spanish Class

Awarded “Number-One-Substitute Teacher,” Peggy takes pride in her work as an educator, but the problem is that she’s barely educated herself when it comes to the main subject that she teaches. “Me llamo Peggy Hill” is always her go-to phrase, as well as words here and there, though she can never find herself shaping up for an actual conversation in Spanish, as much as she denies it.

This has lead her to many embarrassing moments, including being shown-up by her own students, attempting to speak broken Spanish to people of color, and always misunderstanding anything said to her that isn’t just a string of words.

6 Peggy Becomes a “Foot Model”

Peggy’s feet are one of her greatest insecurities due to their large size. Often, she made fun of them until a man named Grant Trimble compliments her feet. Eventually, Grant convinces her to “model” her feet for him. The scheme reveals itself to be a fetish site as Grant exploits Peggy for money. Feeling abused, Peggy leaves the industry for the better.

5 Peggy Repeatedly Dunks a WWII Veteran

The substitute-teacher is talented in certain sports, particularly those that involve throwing. So, when allowed the chance to prove her skills even in the pettiest of situations, Peggy is always one to rise to the occasion. Even if it means repeatedly dunking a geriatric WWII vet into a dunk tank full of cold water.

While the event is for charity, it’s not shown how long Peggy goes at this for, though, when Hank is ready to leave, Peggy insists she still has money on one more throw. Having a good arm, she makes it, dunking the poor elder one last time in the pool.

4 Peggy Gets Pantsed

One of the rudest kids in Bobby’s class gets ahead of himself after pranking Peggy, leaves her with a poor teacher evaluation. Subsequently, he pushes the envelope and pulls down her pants in the middle of class.

Mortified, Peggy’s instincts kick in, and she spanks Dooley repeatedly, leaving the rest of the kids also horrified. This leads to Peggy being penalized while she stands proud for standing up for herself. When the kids continue to try and intimidate her after the incident, she threatens them by pulling out a flail from her desk.

3 Peggy Punches Randy Travis

A fan of the country singer, Peggy had eagerly sent in her lyrics in hopes that Randy would favor her as a songwriter. Though, upon hearing what he thinks is her lyrics at a meet-and-greet, Peggy becomes immediately irritable and punches Randy Travis right in the face, to Hank’s horror. Later in the episode, Travis is revealed to be a hack on a certain level and ends up getting punched by Hank.

2 Peggy Accidentally Smuggles Drugs

Flattered by a heartwarming letter from someone who claims they were a former student, Peggy gullibly visits an inmate on death row named Wesley Archer. Together they play Boggle, which turns south when it turns out Wesley was using Peggy to smuggle in cocaine using the hourglass game timer.

When she finds out what is really happening, the convict threatens to blackmail her since she’s technically been assisting him in a serious crime. However, when he does finally attempt to rat out Peggy as “using him to peddle drugs,” Peggy can get away only because there’s no cocaine left to use as evidence against her.

1 Peggy Kidnaps a Child from Mexico

Due to Peggy’s poor Spanish and attentive skills, a field trip to Mexico goes array when she tells a young girl to get onto the school bus on the way back home to Arlen. The girl is unable to speak English, but she talks in fluent Spanish. From this, Peggy can piece together that she accidentally kidnapped the child from all the way in Mexico.

Peggy attempts to return the girl but gets arrested and sent to prison in Mexico. To prove her innocence, Peggy has to explain her situation in Spanish, which ends up working in her favor when the judge lets her go upon the realization that she’s too incompetent to have kidnapped the kid on purpose.
