We all have those times when we question the value of social media, pondering whether humanity would be better off without it. When you have lingering doubts like those, just remember that Hideo Kojima’s brilliantly bizarre Death Stranding tweets are a thing. The man’s single-handedly redeeming the entire concept of social media.

Now, we’re all curious to dive into the ins and outs of this enigmatic adventure title. Kojima’s next big project in the wake of… whatever it was that happened between the gaming icon and Konami was always going to attract attention, wasn’t it? The Metal Gear maestro is a uniquely creative mind, and Death Stranding is the sort of project only he could deliver.

We’ve seen the very lengthy trailer. We’ve seen the competitive peeing contests players can engage in. We’ve seen huge ladders. We’ve even seen a bizarre mash-up of the game and Super Mario 64. It’s been a wild ride on the hype train so far, ahead of the intriguing title’s November 8 release.

The absurdity of the journey to date has been punctuated by Kojima himself, who has been dropping some of the greatest tweets of the year. Way back in May, he was firing close-up images of sound equipment into the social media ether, hinting at the voice-over production of the game in action. Earlier this month, he was celebrating the game’s watery motif by announcing that he wants to be a crab.

That’s just the start of things. What else does the great man have in his tweeting repertoire? How about an in-depth explanation of exactly what it means to be a Hideo Kojima game?

That’s right, friends. If you want a job done well, do it yourself. There was also this little doozy, which would make a fantastic triumph-against-adversity story if Hollywood’s listening:

Granted, these tweets are out of order, but what a beautiful and uplifting tale they tell. Kojima’s sure to have had more than a few Hades days (now that’s a feeling we can all empathise with) recently, but one thing’s for sure: all the blood, sweat and tears he’s pouring into Death Stranding are going to result in one heck of a unique gaming experience. Possibly a life-changing one. Is it November yet?
