Latest Pokemon Legends Arceus Trailer Unveils Brand New Pokemon Kleavor

Pokemon Legends: Arceus has just unveiled one of its new “Noble Pokemon” in its latest trailer.

Kleavor, the Lord of the Woods, is a bug/rock type “Noble” Pokemon, one of a handful of powerful new monsters hidden away around the Hisui region. While not said in the trailer, The Pokemon Company later confirmed that Kleavor is, in fact, a new evolution of Scyther, caused by the “special minerals” found in the Hisui region. This makes it the third new evolution announced for Legends: Arceus, joining Stantler’s evolution Wyrdeer and Basculin’s evolution Basculegion.

Noble Pokemon have received a “mysterious blessing”, and have abilities not normally possessed by Pokemon. Over the course of the game, it’ll be your job as a member of the Survey Corps to break them out of the frenzies they’re in. The trailer shows a fight with Kleavor that involves a lot of dodge rolling and throwing of items, in true Zelda-inspired fashion, before turning into a more traditional, turn-based battle with an Oshawott.

Along with Kleavor, the trailer shows off a lot more of what the Hisui region will have to offer. There’s riding around on Wyrdeer, Basculegion and Hisuian Braviary, capturing wild Pokemon, and meeting the “Wardens”, people who work to protect and care for the Noble Pokemon. We’re also shown Jubilife Village, a base where you’ll be able to craft items, customise your character, and take photos with your Pokemon.

In Jubilife, you’ll have access to your “Pasture”, the Hisuian equivalent of the modern PC box, where your Pokemon can be stored between missions in the Survey Corps. Despite there not being a PC box, you will have a phone for some reason. The Arc Phone is a device that contains “some sort of strange power”, and may or may not be connected somehow to Arceus himself.

Nobles aren’t the only powerful Pokemon found in Hisui, as the trailer briefly shows off “Alpha Pokemon”. Alpha Pokemon, like the Electivire shown, are larger and more aggressive than normal and have glowing red eyes. Expect them to be among the tougher challenges as you explore the region.

Alongside the conflict with the Pokemon Nobles, further elements of Legends: Arceus’ story were hinted at. One of the characters introduced is Arezu, a Warden who admires and wishes to learn more from Hisui’s “Galaxy Team”. Of course, Team Galaxy were the villainous team who were last seen plaguing the Sinnoh region in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. As the Hisui region is the Sinnoh region of the past, we may see more about the origins of the team and its initial goals before Cyrus’ obsession with creating a world free of emotions.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is due for launch on January 28, 2022 for the Switch.
