Leaked Files Say Pokémon GO Will Be Getting FitnessBased Quests Soon

Dataminers have discovered that Pokémon Go may be about to get fitness based quests that could result in big rewards for players.

Believe it or not, it has been more than two years since Pokémon Go was released and took the world by storm. Even though hype surrounding the augmented reality mobile game has died down considerably, it is still extremely popular. There are now three generations of Pokémon out there for players to catch in addition to updates and improvements constantly being made to the game.

As well as more and more Pokémon being added to the game, various other changes have been made recently that may have passed ex-players by. Players can now trade Pokémon with one another, give each other gifts, and use stones to evolve certain Pokémon just like in the original video games. The next update is coming imminently, and dataminers have unearthed an interesting addition that may be on its way.

Upon rooting around in Pokémon Go’s latest code, players have discovered Niantic seems to be preparing to add fitness related quests to the game. The Silph Road published a number of its latest findings on Reddit and the most interesting was the fitness related discovery. It suggests that players will have three fitness goals per week, relating to how far they have walked, and will earn rewards for meeting them.

What is currently unknown is how far players will have to walk to reach these goals. Its assumed that they will not be easy to attain. It has been a staple of the game that players have to walk up to 10km to hatch eggs, so the distances will presumably be even longer than that. However, it is also possible that this idea is scrapped and the fitness quests never see the light of day. That has happened with discoveries in the past.

Most video games require us to stay at home and sit in front of some sort of screen. But not Pokémon Go. That is why it has been so popular and received so much praise. Not only do players have to go out and find the Pokémon, but they have to do a lot of walking catch them. If the fitness quests do become a part of the game, then it will be yet another way that Pokémon Go is trying to promote its players to live a healthier lifestyle, all while playing video games.
