There was once a time where Lindsay Lohan was poised to become the next big thing in Hollywood. First getting noticed for playing the dual role of mischievous twins in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, Lohan’s star rose fast from there, starring in another successful Disney remake — Freaky Friday — by 2003. It was with 2004’s fondly remembered Mean Girls that Lohan truly emerged as a potential A-lister though, with the teen dramedy also launching the careers of Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried.

Unfortunately, by a few years later, Lohan’s wild personal life had seemingly gotten out of control, to the point where it was effecting her professional prospects. This phenomenon is of course all too common among actors who hit it big at a young age, and while some ultimately manage to pull their careers out of free fall, not all are lucky enough to do so. While Lohan still acts fairly regularly, she’s far from the star she once was, appearing mostly on TV shows and in low-budget movies.

Still, despite how long she’s been around on the pop-culture scene, Lohan is still only 30-years-old, and there’s nothing that says she can’t still manage to pull off a career revival. To that end, Lohan recently took to Instagram to make it known that she would like to play Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. She also wants Oscar-winner Bill Condon, who helmed the studio’s soon to premiere live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, to direct the film. EW has a screenshot of Lohan’s original post, although she has since edited the caption to be simply “thelittlemermaid”, as seen below:

While Lohan landing the lead role in a live-action Little Mermaid movie isn’t necessarily an impossible dream — after all, she certainly looks the part — it’s a bit hard to imagine Disney chosing her to lead a big-budget blockbuster. Lohan hasn’t appeared in a wide-release film since 2013’s Scary Movie 5 after all, and she only put in a small cameo as herself in that.

This actually isn’t Lohan’s only recent push to try for more mainstream films, as she revealed that she had written a treatment for a potential Mean Girls 2 near the end of 2016. One assumes somebody might end up giving her another chance to shine at some point. Only time will tell who it will be.
