The cast of the Lord of The Rings trilogy reunited in an hour-long video interview with actor Josh Gad to celebrate all things Middle Earth. The trilogy is one of the most cherished franchises in movie history. All three films – Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – were hits with critics and audiences alike. The Return of the King, the final film in the series, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won all of them, tying with Ben-Hur and Titanic for the most Oscar wins by a single film in a year.

All three films, based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, were directed by Peter Jackson and shot in his home country New Zealand. The scripts were written by Jackson, his wife Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, and starred a glittering cast of veterans and newcomers. The trilogy has become one of the most beloved franchises of all time in the years since release, and many of the actors are in demand at fan conventions around the world.

This weekend, those fans got the chance to see the cast reunited, albeit virtually, in the latest episode of Reunited Apart. The show is Josh Gad’s YouTube series that gathers together the casts of classic movies to raise funds for charity. Gad had teased the news earlier in the week, and dropped the episode on Sunday, May 31. It has already been viewed over 1 million times. You can watch it yourself below:

The episode features a host of cast and crew from the trilogy. The fellowship was all there, including Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), Billy Boyd (Pippin), Dominic Monaghan (Merry), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Sean Bean (Boromir), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and John Rhys-Davies (Gimli). Other actors from the trilogy who joined were Andy Serkis (Gollum), Liv Tyler (Arwen), Karl Urban (Eomer) and Jackson and Walsh also joined.

The hour consists of the cast and crew reminiscing about their time shooting the films, as well as some insight into their current situations in lockdown. Serkis even made an off-color joke about what Gollum might be doing during this time, managing to poke fun at U.S. President Donald Trump at the same time.

Gad’s YouTube series, of which this was the fourth episode, has managed to reunite some iconic casts. Aside from the Lord of the Rings reunion, he has done episodes with the casts of The Goonies, Back To The Future and Splash. Each episode raises funds for the charity No Kid Hungry, and has managed to gather a number of donations from the public so far.
