Now that the nitty-gritty of Innistrad: Crimson Vow has been revealed in day one, it’s time for the Magic the Gathering community to take over spoiler season and show off some cards.

Today’s been a mostly red-centric day, with a few cool new Commanders, a Planeswalker, and a very worrying extra turns spell. We also got some really cool flavour in white, an overall underwhelming selection of black, and an incredible new dragon.

Note that, due to time zones, there are still a few cards set to be revealed today that aren’t on this roundup. They won’t be missed, though! They’ll just be included tomorrow.

Voice of the Blessed (translated name TBA)

Wizards really likes cards like Ajani’s Pridemate and the Arena-exclusive Hallowed Priest, which get +1/+1 counters whenever you gain life. Voice of the Blessed is slightly different, though, in that it gains flying when you have at least for or more +1/+1 counters on it, and then indestructible when it had at least ten. Getting up to ten sounds difficult, but it really isn’t thanks to cards like Kor Celebrant and Attended Healer allowing for multiple lifegain triggers each turn.

Dawnheart Geist

Not only does this give lots of support for the new-look Disturb, which has spirits come back as enchantments, it’s also a huge flavour win. The Dawnheart Coven were the main human collective of Midnight Hunt, but were almost all killed by the werewolves and vampires when they tried to stop the endless night. It’s nice to see some of the aftermath of that story appear here.

Watch for the Future (translated name TBA)

One of the first cards announced in a language other than English, Watch for the Future (actual name to be confirmed) is a sorcery that lets you target a player and up to four cards in their graveyard, and shuffle them back into their library. Then, you look at the top four cards of your library, putting one in your hand and the rest on the bottom of the library in any order. Considering you can target yourself with it, this is actually pretty great.

Soulcode Tablet // Codebound Geist (translated name TBA)

This card was previewed by the German Youtube channel TraderOnlineVideo, and an English translation hasn’t been made available yet. This card does introduce the Omen counters teased by Mark Rosewater, though: Soul-code Tablet enters with three Omen counters on, and whenever a creature is put into your graveyard, remove an Omen counter. When there are none left, it transforms into Code-bound Spirit, which has flying.

Dread Fugue

Hand destruction is slowly building its way back up in Standard after rotation. Joining Duress from crimson Vow, Dread Fugue can be used to cheaply remove a low-cost threat from an opponent’s hand, or cleaved to take out a bigger one. It’s not the best-costed spell ever, but considering how low-mana-cost the current Standard rotation is, it’ll definitely see play.

Skulking Killer

There are too many caveats on this card to make it worthwhile. -2/-2 is a pretty standard reduction for an effect like this, but then it’s hampered by it only affecting one creature, only until the end of the turn, and only if they don’t control any other creature.

Path of Peril

A black boardwipe for smaller creatures that can be cleaved to destroy all of them. So far, Cleave seems to be a little too expensive to be useful outside of Standard – five generic, three black and a white just to destroy all creatures is a lot of mana.

Chandra, Dressed to Kill

The art is impeccable, which is a shame because the card itself is pretty bog-standard Chandra Planeswalker. It makes mana, it exiles cards, it deals direct damage. It’s as red as they come, and doesn’t do a whole lot of new or interesting stuff. That dress, though.

Manaform Hellkite

This is immediately up there with GOldspan Dragon as being one of the best dragons in Standard right now. Making creature tokens with flying and haste based on the mana cost of spells you cast, it’s evocative of Ikoria’s Shark Typhoon in all the best ways.

Change of Fortune

This one slightly slipped past yesterday’s roundup, but blimey is it an interesting one. Playing into the Vampire’s discarding theme, Change of Fortune is a one-sided Wheel effect where you discard your hand, and then draw as many cards as you’ve discarded this turn. In Madness decks where you’re discarding anyway, this could be a really good way to replenish your hand.

Alchemist’s Gambit

What Izzet (red/blue) absolutely didn’t need in Standard was another extra turn spell to contend with. We already have Alrund’s Epiphany causing problems, did we really need Alchemist’s Gambit making Turns decks even more viable? Cleave is still a cool mechanic, but this card is going to be a nightmare. At least Obeka, Brute Chronologist gets more tools in Commander, though.

Vampires’ Vengeance

An instant tribal potential board-wipe that has a lot in common with the Pirate-focused Fiery Cannonade. However, it improves on it by also producing a Blood token. This card is also the first non-permanent spell we’ve seen to have a Dracula alt-art version, with Mysterious Blood Lines.

Runo Stromkirk // Krothuss, Lord of the Deep

Magic The Gatherings Innistrad Crimson Vow Spoilers Day Two Roundup

Though this may at first look like a neat Vampire reanimator commander, it’s actually a much-needed Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus and Serpent Commander in disguise. Being able to put creatures from your graveyard on top of your library is really powerful, but then if you’re playing in one of those creature types, it can transform to make numerous copies of huge monsters! This is a scary and really interesting new Commander with lots of flexibility for deckbuilding.

Torens, Fist of the Angels

We saw this card in the reveal stream yesterday, but only as its alternate art style in next January’s Innistrad: Double Feature. We finally saw the Crimson Vow card today, including its two alt-arts. Those Dracula-themed cards are really, really nice.
