Magical girl Annie will be slashing her way to victory when she joins the battle in Skullgirls Mobile within the next few months. She’ll also be making her grand appearance in Skullgirls 2nd Encore in early 2021.

Taking on a VHS look, the trailer gives off a Sailor Moon vibe, but that quickly changes as she slashes up her competition with her blade. In true Skullgirls fashion, she also has a demonic-looking bunny called Sagan beside her.

She looks way younger than she really is because she’s been cursed by the Skull Heart; she can never grow up. She’s been a girl for centuries and she wants to take out the cause of her curse so she can finally get older. Annie works as a television actress, trying to tell the world of the dangers of the Skull Heart, hence her stage being set in a studio.

Hidden Variable, the developer of Skullgirls Mobile, worked closely with Lab Zero on Annie’s creation. As the mobile game has reached over 5 million downloads across iOS and Android, her release on that platform was a higher priority. However, she will be releasing on the console version 2nd Encore later and both developers want to “ensure she [is] ready to take the stage.”

Vincent Diamente has also created a new song for Annie called “The Stars and Stage are Set.” A free MP3 download has been made available by the developers.

Annie currently hasn’t got a release date, but it will be fairly soon as she’ll be a part of the 4.4 update in the next few months. The release of characters has been sluggish, but according to Lab Zero, the release of Fukua was successful enough to guarantee another character.

The success of Skullgirls Mobile seems to ensure more characters are on the way. The developers recently said that if Annie does well on mobile and 2nd Encore, she’ll be the “first of many new Skullgirls characters.”

If Annie’s trailer has piqued your interest, you can check out this slick hand-drawn fighting game on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Vita, and PC. It is also available on iOS and Android.
