Mario Kart Tour had better be careful because Kartrider Rush+ has just opened pre-registration.
Most of you have probably never heard of Kartrider, the kart racing mobile franchise from Korean developer Nexon, but it’s a HUGE deal in Asia with over 300 million players worldwide. At least a quarter of Koreans have played a Kartrider game, and Nexon has partnered with big-name carmakers like BMW to bring exclusive cosmetics to the franchise.
Which is all to say that Kartrider is a big deal. And now the latest Kartrider entry has just opened pre-registration.
It’s called Kartrider Rush+, the sequel to the acclaimed Kartrider Rush. It has all the same kart racing action as you’d expect, pitting racers against real-life opponents from across the globe. There are several different modes to play, including Speed Race Mode, Arcade Mode, Ranked Mode, Story Mode, and Time Trial mode, so there’s always a game to play whether you want it to be with other people or by yourself.
There are a few new features to Kartrider Rush+ that set it apart from previous titles. First is the Home feature that lets you customize a personal space with in-game accessories. There are also a few minigames to dig into here. Second is the Mentorship Program that lets top-ranked racers take new racers under their wing, with the Mentor receiving special perks and rewards for their charity.
Kartrider Rush+ will feature 50 race tracks, 20 karts, and tons of customization options. Monetization is typical of mobile titles with players spending most of their cash on cosmetic microtransactions and experience boosters.
There’s no release date set, but pre-registration is available now for English, Korean, Thai, and Traditional Chinese languages. Nexon also has a pre-registration goal to convince you to get your friends into Kartrider: after 3 million pre-registrations, everyone gets exclusive pre-reg rewards including the Skelemech Kart and Slugger Dao costume.
Nexon also plans on releasing a PC / Xbox One version of Kartrider called Kartrider Drift sometime in 2020. Keep an eye out for that if you’re looking for something other than Mario Kart for your arcade racing fix.
