Mario Kart Tour is keeping it simple when it comes to the launch of next week’s tour; since it launches on New Year’s eve, players are getting the New Year’s Tour.

Gamers have complained about a lot of things that have gone on to enjoy massive amounts of success in 2019. In September, that honor fell at the feet of Mario Kart Tour. No game proved that the negative online audience is the vocal minority more than Mario Kart’s first foray onto mobile. Despite the nagging about microtransactions, more people had played Tour within a few days of its release than have played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in two and a half years.

The key to Tour’s success these past few months has been fresh content. Nintendo introduces a new tour every two weeks without fail. With every fresh tour comes a new track, new characters, new karts, and new content. Right now, players are in the midst of the Holiday Tour, at least for the next few days.

On December 31, 2019 a new tour will begin. As revealed via Mario Kart Tour’s Twitter account, the not-so-inventively named New Year’s Tour. That’s fine by us as it makes perfect sense. The trailer for the tour shows off four new characters and a tweaked track. Here’s everything we know about the tour so far.

While the new characters aren’t exactly new, there are alternate versions being added to the tour on New Year’s Day, such as Red Yoshi, Party Toad, and Gold Koopa Troopa. There also appears to be a reimagined version of the Tokyo track. Chances are high that Nintendo has the cities that Tour has visited mapped out, and we will see newer parts of those cities as different tours are introduced.

The reaction to Tour’s New Year’s Tour on social media has been mixed. Many players are excited to see Red Yoshi enter the fray, while others thought the addition of Birdo during the Holiday Tour would be a sign of things to come. If the new additions don’t appeal to you, that gives you a chance to save up your rubies for the next tour, which will launch on January 15, 2020.
