Mario Party Superstars showcased three additional boards during the Nintendo Direct and reminded players that stealing stars from one another is not only allowed, but encouraged. Fans had been hoping for some favorite maps to return to the new Mario Party, several of which were announced today.

Mario Party games have been one of the staples of the Mario series. Mario Party Superstars was first announced during the final day of E3 2021, with Nintendo telling players that it would include five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 titles and 100 minigames from all across the series. Additionally, there will be online play, which players have been asking for since the last release lacked its’ inclusion.

Today, along with the three remaining N64 maps to be announced, players were reminded that star-stealing is a great way to win the virtual board game. The three maps Nintendo revealed were Woody Woods, Yoshi’s Tropical Island, and Horror Island, with Space Land and Peach’s Birthday Cake already having been revealed previously. Additionally, there will be a mode that allows players to focus entirely on minigame fun. Mt. Minigames will have a variety of courses where players can challenge one another in back-to-back minigame action. Here are some of the best confirmed Mario Party Superstars minigames.

In the teaser, Bowser swapped places with Toadette after she got a star, and King Boo swiped stars from players in the night of Horror Land. These hint to players that they too would soon be chasing stars, but that they wouldn’t be alone. The Mario Party series is meant to be played in groups, and with online coming, players will be able to steal from “family, friends, and frenemies” from all over the world. Multiplayer online functionality is in the last installment too but has had lots of problems since its’ addition to the game. Super Mario Party fixed online multiplayer in a surprise update only earlier this year.

Still, it’s hoped that the launch of their next installment will start out on a better foot than the last. Players and fans were largely disappointed when Super Mario Party first came out, and with what has been announced for Mario Party Superstars, fans are hoping that Nintendo listened. Last year, players and fans had dwindling hopes as Nintendo’s competitive Mario Party series seemed to have declined. Over the course of the past year, however, hope has returned to these players and fans, as Nintendo made moves that had been long requested. Hopefully, then, they listened well for Mario Party Superstars.
