Right from the beginning of the Married at First Sight season 11 premiere, Karen and Miles were fan favorites. Miles, although younger than his match, had a warm and caring spirit that seemed perfect for his new bride. Fans were eager for the pair to meet. MAFS viewers openly shared on social media that they hoped Karen would overlook her concerns about dating younger men. As each episode aired, Miles was an open book and Karen… not so much. The contrast turned many off and raised questions about whether it was Karen or the editing.

Married at First Sight season 11 has been a unique season, since the cast had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in more time together. Outside of the consequences of the coronavirus, Karen from MAFS became the first participant in the social experiment to find out who her match was before arriving at the altar. After someone in her bridal party received a text message intended for Miles’ groomsmen, the 30-year-old found out her fiancé’s identity. As most people would, she took the opportunity to find out more via social media. Based on what she saw, she shared that he wasn’t her type. All this caused her to have more doubts about whether she was making the right decision to continue on the popular series.

Despite her preconceptions about Miles, the Lousiana native continued with the MAFS process, opting for a slow and steady pace. Karen repeatedly made it clear she needed more time to open up before embracing physical intimacy. Her guard was up against the 26-year-old. Viewers were seeing how he treated her, and her reactions made her look coldhearted and unreasonable. For this reason, fans began to question if they would stay married on Decision Day. Furthermore, fans started to wonder if Karen was being stoic, or if it was just the editing. When the couple decided to stay married on Decision Day, their decision served as confirmation that editing may have been a huge factor. Karen’s own mom had a few things to say about the matter. On the popular Married at First Sight Instagram fan page, @mafsfan, several screenshots of Karen’s mom defending her daughter were shared. See one screenshot below:

The screenshot shows Karen’s mother Kathy calling out the editing of the show on Facebook. In other screenshots, Kathy responds to a fan who questions if Karen is into Miles or not. “She into him,” the supportive mother replied, adding the 100 emoji. Fans have questioned the editing of Karen on the show since the Honeymoon episodes. On a Reddit thread, fans discussed the way Karen’s reactions to Miles were edited, including her response to Miles revealing that he has had depression in the past. Her response prompted unfavorable comments but many did consider that the show’s editing might be deceptive.

Oftentimes, reality shows are edited to heighten the drama. This approach entices viewers. It appears Karen may have fallen victim to this technique. Fortunately, MAFS fans can see right through the drama, and her mother is around to explain a few things to naysayers.
