Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Hawkeye episode 3

While Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) has impressive skills as an archer, his coolest moment in Marvel’s Hawkeye episode 3 couldn’t have happened without another Avenger—which seems like a mistake. In the episode, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) were working together to escape the Tracksuit Mafia using a variety of Clint’s trick arrows. However, the best one seemingly came courtesy of Ant-Man, rather than from the ingenuity of Barton himself.

Previously in Marvel’s Hawkeye, both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop found themselves captured by the Tracksuit Mafia. Held overnight, the duo eventually meets the crew’s leader Maya Lopez (aka Echo) in episode 3, an intimidating woman whose father was murdered by the Ronin. Given Clint and Kate’s clear connection to the suit, Maya wants answers about where Ronin is, though the archers eventually escape, which leads to a car chase where Kate fires trick arrows while Clint drives.

As Kate shoots the trick arrows before knowing what they can actually do, there are some she finds impressive while others are more underwhelming (such as the putty or plunger arrows). However, the most powerful and impressive arrow was without a doubt one of the few Clint Barton himself fires when they were trapped on a bridge. While Kate shot a normal arrow to fall straight down on the Tracksuits’ oncoming truck, Hawkeye fired a second arrow containing an arrowhead full of Pym particles to make the first arrow grow to massive size before taking the truck out. However, an epic move like that isn’t possible without Ant-Man.

While the giant arrow is an amazingly cool moment, it’s a move that Clint couldn’t have done alone on his own merit. He presumedly got the Pym particles from Scott Lang’s Ant-Man at some point before the events of this new Disney+ series. As such, it’s somewhat disappointing that the coolest moment in the episode didn’t come from his own abilities, relying instead on those of another Avenger.

While he may not have the amazing powers held by his fellow superheroes, Hawkeye is formidable, skilled, and very cool in his own right. Using the Pym arrow is objectively an epic moment and there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. However, the fact that it was the coolest moment in Marvel’s Hawkeye episode 3 creates the implication that Hawkeye can’t be cool on his own, or get out of tight situations without the help of Avengers like Ant-Man.
