Marvel is going back to basics in a brand new She-Hulk ongoing series that will see the Marvel Comics hero return to her classic look. In the upcoming comic from Rainbow Rowell and Rogê Antônio, Jennifer Walters will return to practicing law and rebuilding her legal career. In two preview covers for She-Hulk #1, the hero returns to her classic superhero lawyer form, which features her more traditional look before Jason Aaron’s run on Avengers.

In Jason Aaron’s (with David Marquez’s) run on the Avengers, She-Hulk transformed into her bulkier appearance after a Celestial ended up giving her more gamma radiation. Part of her time with the Avengers showed Walters become more comfortable with herself upon the realization that people weren’t always complimenting her beauty and that they feared her like the first Hulk. An issue even featured the She-Hulk being grilled in a VR courtroom stand by the original She-Hulk about her appearance. She-Hulk would take on an even more terrifying form after being captured by the Winter Guard and serving as the Winter Hulk. Now, Marvel is giving the character a soft reboot ahead of her new series that returns a look that’s inspired from her past – including the runs by John Byrne, Charles Soule, Javier Polido, Dan Slott, and Juan Bobillo.

This week, Marvel Comics revealed new details about Rainbow Rowell and Rogê Antônio’s upcoming She-Hulk series. In a tease for the issue, Marvel said the series will see Jennifer Walters eager to put her rage-filled days behind her as she tries to rebuild her law career. The solicit further added She-Hulk will meet a friend from her past who “comes knocking with a mystery she can’t resist,” leading the hero to be bashing again in no time. She-Hulk #1 is set the series is set to “shake up her life and possibly the whole Marvel Universe.” Check out the two main covers from the series from Jen Bartel and Adam Hughes, which show the new-old look of She-Hulk.

Rowell said she was thrilled to be writing She-Hulk, calling her smart, funny, and “truly heroic.” Meanwhile, Antônio echoed Rowell’s excitement, saying working on the project with her has been “inspiring,” and that he can’t wait for readers to see the comic.

It’s no surprise to see She-Hulk’s classic look return, as with the upcoming She-Hulk show on Disney+ starring Tatiana Maslany coming sooner than later, the character was due for an appearance that was more in line with what readers are more familiar with (and how Maslany might look on the show). Aaron’s She-Hulk brought something different to the table. But now, with her new series, Marvel is ready to take She-Hulk on a new adventure with a more familiar look. She-Hulk #1 comes to comic book stores on January 12.
