When Marvel’s Avengers launched a little over a year ago, gamers and Marvel fans immediately took to social media to request that outfits based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe be added to the game. After the mostly negative initial reactions to Marvel’s Avengers’ character designs, many fans were hoping to see the game present some designs that were more familiar. Although it took quite some time, Crystal Dynamics eventually announced that skins based on the designs from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would eventually come to the game’s in-game marketplace and would be purchasable with credits. However, it was not announced as to when the skins would be coming, or which characters would be receiving them. Many theorized that the developers might look to Avengers: Endgame for inspiration, which at the time was the most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe film to release.

After a leak, Crystal Dynamics finally revealed that the first MCU skin to be added to Marvel’s Avengers would be Black Widow’s Avengers: Endgame skin. While many fans expressed excitement that an MCU skin was finally being added, many were upset that certain details didn’t match its film counterpart. While the suit was accurately recreated, Black Widow herself was not. Even though Crystal Dynamics announced early on that it would not be attempting to recreate the actors’ faces from the films, many fans were still disappointed that Black Widow’s Signature braid from the film was not used, with the developer instead opting to use its own hair design from the game.

This was only one of the issues that Marvel’s Avengers players had with the skin. Many fans were also understandably frustrated to hear that Avengers’ MCU skins were only purchasable via microtransactions and that there would be no way to unlock them in the game. Despite these issues, the MCU-inspired skins have proven to be among the most popular ones in the game. Many more have since been released, though unfortunately, when it comes to receiving MCU-inspired outfits in the game, not all characters have received equal treatment. Some have received as many as three MCU-inspired outfits, while others still have yet to get any.

Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, & Spider-Man Have No MCU Skins

The PlayStation exclusive release of Spider-Man has been one of the most hotly debated subjects in Marvel’s Avengers, with many fans arguing it would have been better not to include him at all than as a character that is exclusive to only one console. But now that the character has finally released, most reactions to Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man from PlayStation players have been very positive. However, one complaint that some fans have voiced is towards Spider-Man’s lack of any MCU skins upon release. While it is likely that he will be getting at least one in the coming months, it is possible that his console exclusivity might limit his skin selection in this regard. Popular requests for Spider-Man’s first MCU skin include his Stark Enhanced suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming and his Iron Spider suit from Avengers: Infinity War.

Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop have been playable in Marvel’s Avengers for quite some time now. Kamala Khan starred as the main character in the Reassemble campaign, while Kate Bishop was added in Marvel’s Avengers’ first major update, Operation: Taking AIM. Though both characters have a long history in Marvel’s Avengers, neither character has received a skin inspired by the MCU. This is likely because the characters are both new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kate Bishop very recently debuted in the new Hawkeye series on Disney+, while Kamala Khan will make her first appearance in the upcoming Disney+ show, Ms. Marvel. While neither character has received an MCU skin as of yet, it is likely they will be coming soon, considering their growing roles in the live-action films and shows.

Marvel’s Avengers MCU Skins – Thor And Hulk

Marvel’s Avengers Every Avenger Ranked Based On MCU Costumes

Much like Thor and Hulk were left out of Captain America: Civil War, they have been similarly overlooked by Crystal Dynamics when it comes to receiving MCU-inspired skins in Marvel’s Avengers. Some fans have voiced particular frustration with Hulk’s MCU skin in Marvel’s Avengers, which is based on the suit that Hulk wore to the Quantum Realm in Avengers Endgame. Some fans have argued that the suit, which was worn by Professor Hulk (the fusion between Bruce Banner and the Hulk) was a bad fit for Marvel’s Avengers’ version of the character, where Banner and Hulk are very much not on the same page. Many fans have argued that Hulk’s gladiator costume from Thor: Ragnarok would have fit the game’s version of Hulk much more closely.

Thor was given his suit from the first half of Avengers: Endgame and throughout Avengers: Infinity War. Overall, the look of the skin was well-liked, and fans praised the film-accurate hair. However, many were upset over the decision to have Thor wield Mjolnir instead of Stormbreaker, likely due to the considerable extra time it would take to rework Thor’s animations and moves to fit the much larger weapon. Others were frustrated that Crystal Dynamics didn’t use the Mjolnir design from the films, but instead used Marvel’s Avengers’ Mjolnir. Crystal Dynamics eventually updated the Avengers: Endgame skin to include an MCU accurate version of Mjolnir.

Black Widow, Hawkeye, & Black Panther Have Two MCU Skins

Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Black Panther each have two MCU-inspired skins, though many fans would agree that the quality between them varies quite a bit. Black Widow and Hawkeye were the first two characters to receive MCU-inspired skins, both based on their appearances from Avengers: Endgame. Both skins received criticism for their inaccurate portrayals of the characters’ hair, with Hawkeye’s skin just removing his hair completely.

Black Widow and Hawkeye later received costumes based on Black Widow and Avengers: Age of Ultron respectively, which were much more well-received. Black Panther, on the other hand, has received considerable praise for his two MCU looks. The first skin that was added to Marvel’s Avengers was his MCU Black Panther suit first seen in the 2018 movie. Soon after, he received a skin based on his fan-favorite Captain America: Civil War design.

Captain America & Iron Man Have Avengers’ Most MCU Skins

Captain America and Iron Man are two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most iconic characters, so it is only fitting that they have the most MCU-inspired skins in Marvel’s Avengers, with three each. Captain America has received looks based off of his appearances from The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. His skins are well-designed and have received considerable praise from fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after Crystal Dynamics added his film-accurate shield design. Some fans, however, were unhappy with the beard that was added to Captain America’s Avengers: Infinity War suit, noting that it was merely the Thor beard that had just been placed on Cap, rather than a new beard designed to resemble the one Chris Evans sported in the film.

Iron Man arguably has the best renditions of MCU-inspired skins in Marvel’s Avengers. Part of this is due to the impressive recreations of his Iron Man suits from Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Avengers: Endgame, though it does help that Tony Stark’s face is not visible on the skins, so it looks like a 1:1 recreation rather than being merely inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His outfits also represent how far his Iron Man suits have come since his debut film back in 2008.

At present, there are a total of 14 Marvel Cinematic Universe outfits that players can purchase in Marvel’s Avengers. While this may seem like a lot, there are still three characters who don’t have any MCU-based skins, and two characters that have only a single one. Hopefully, players who main these characters will soon have more options to choose from in the future, which seems like a likely possibility, considering that Crystal Dynamics continues to regularly add new MCU outfits to the game. Having new skins based on fan-favorite designs has proved to be a popular way to keep players invested in Marvel’s Avengers, and there’s no doubt that Hawkeye’s Age of Ultron skin won’t be the last of them.
