Marvels HitMonkey Every Villain Who Could Appear In The MCU (& Where)

Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, a new Hulu original animated series, features several Marvel villains—most of which have yet to be seen in the MCU or other Marvel-based films. Hit-Monkey itself, like the Hulu original Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., is a leftover property of the now-defunct Marvel Television, meaning it falls outside of the MCU. Given the show’s hard TV-MA rating and Marvel’s hesitation to make R-rated MCU movies thus far, this is probably for the best.

Hit-Monkey follows the story of its eponymous protagonist, a Japanese snow monkey, and his wise-cracking sidekick, the ghost of a dead American hitman named Bryce. Together, Bryce and Hit-Monkey tear their way through Tokyo’s corrupt government and its criminal underworld seeking revenge for Bryce’s death, and that of Hit-Monkey’s entire troupe. Marvel’s Hit-Monkey mixes no-holds-barred violence with tongue-in-cheek humor, colorful animation, and a surprising degree of emotion and heart as well. All-around, it’s a creative new Marvel venture that explores a wacky corner of the comic book universe that’s gone untouched so far in the MCU.

In addition to Hit-Monkey himself, the series also debuts some niche Marvel villains that have yet to break into the MCU, and most of which have yet to find their way to the screen at all. With Hit-Monkey’s fast-paced, over-the-top nature, these colorful characters make a natural and fun addition. Here’s every Marvel villain Hit-Monkey introduces, and where they fit in to the broader Marvel universe.

Lady Bullseye

Marvels HitMonkey Every Villain Who Could Appear In The MCU (& Where)

Marvel’s Hit-Monkey has Lady Bullseye as its main villain by the series’ latter half, as she’s commissioned by the Yakuza to track down the macaque as revenge for his murderous purge of all the previous bosses. She’s a riff on the male Daredevil villain Bullseye, who Hit-Monkey faces in his original comic run. Because Bullseye is featured in Netflix’s Daredevil show—played by Wilson Bethel—Marvel’s Hit-Monkey wasn’t able to use him, but Lady Bullseye makes a more-than-adequate substitute. Gifted with uncanny aim and a vicious personality, she’s a daunting yet fitting match for Hit-Monkey in the series. In the future, if Lady Bullseye were to appear in the MCU, it would most likely happen alongside Daredevil or in Hit-Monkey seasons 2 & 3 if they happen and get folded into the MCU.

Silver Samurai

Marvels HitMonkey Every Villain Who Could Appear In The MCU (& Where)

Keniuchio Harada, aka Silver Samurai, is a Marvel comics mutant who’s clashed with both Daredevil and Wolverine and worked for shady organizations like Hydra and The Hand. He’s also the half-sister of Wolverine love-interest Mariko Yashida, and he eventually takes over her role as the head of the Japanese crime family, Clan Yashida. In Hit-Monkey, however, Silver Samurai appears in the finale as a sworn protector of Japan’s Prime Minister and does battle against the show’s other super-powered characters. Silver Samurai hasn’t appeared in the MCU yet, but he is in The Wolverine as the main antagonist and a collateral problem of Logan’s reasons for going to Japan. Thus, an X-Men entrance into the MCU would be Silver Samurai’s best chance of making it in, too.

Fat Cobra

Marvels HitMonkey Every Villain Who Could Appear In The MCU (& Where)

Hit-Monkey episode 4 sees the simian assassin break into a maximum-security prison. While there, he finds himself in a lawless underground pit where the worst of the worst are held, and winds up in a cage match against none other than Fat Cobra. Though not necessarily a villain in all his appearances, Fat Cobra isn’t officially a hero, either. He’s an Immortal Weapon, a champion of one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven in Marvel’s Iron Fist comics. His inclusion in Hit-Monkey is brief, but it’s enough for him to show off his lightning feet and help Hit-Monkey out in key moments. Fat Cobra’s best shot at the MCU would be to appear alongside a new MCU Iron Fist if the hero were reimagined in the wake of Marvel’s failed Iron Fist series on Netflix, which ran for only 2 seasons starting in 2017 before it was canceled.

Yuki

Marvels HitMonkey Every Villain Who Could Appear In The MCU (& Where)

One of the more niche Marvel characters Hit-Monkey deploys is Yuki, named after a snow spirit from Japanese folklore. In the series, she’s presented as a protecting goddess of Tokyo who initially goes after Hit-Monkey because of all the chaos he’s caused, but ultimately allies with him because of his righteous mission. In the Marvel comics, she’s a member of The Nail, an elite subset of The Hand, which is a nefarious demon-worshipping group of ninjas that’s been frequently involved with Hydra. The Hand often appears as an enemy to Daredevil and Wolverine. Thus, if the MCU were to fold Yuki in at some point, it would probably happen in a tie-in featuring the X-Men or Daredevil’s universe.

Ogun

Like Yuki, the demon-masked ninja Ogun appears very briefly in Hit-Monkey episode 5, “Run Monkey Run,” to terrorize the macaque after a huge bounty is placed on his head by the Yakuza. Ogun has appeared in Marvel comics most often in conjunction with Wolverine, first acting as a mentor and martial arts trainer to Logan, and eventually trying to take over his body using dark arts. Ogun also becomes a Yakuza enforcer at one point, which is the version of him Hit-Monkey seems to use. Also like Yuki, Ogun’s best shot at the MCU would be if the X-Men franchise were ever incorporated.

Kingpin

Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk, gets a passing mention in Hit-Monkey when Bryce takes Hit-Monkey to an upscale tailor and notes that the best of the best get their suits there, pointing to a picture of Kingpin on the wall to emphasize his point. Originally a Spider-Man villain, the crime boss has also appeared as a major Daredevil antagonist throughout his Marvel comics run. Of any of the villains appearing in Hit-Monkey, Kingpin is also probably the closest to having an MCU appearance, as he’s the main antagonist of Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Though it’s not an MCU film, Sony and Marvel’s new Spider-Man deal and the upcoming multiverse event of Spider-Man: No Way Home could change that.

Aside from the common ground most of these Hit-Monkey villains share of operating in or near Japan, for the most part they all intersect primarily with the realms of either Wolverine and the X-Men and/or Daredevil, too. This makes sense, given that Hit-Monkey’s main Marvel comics connection is Deadpool, a fellow assassin who also often partners with Wolverine and Daredevil. Thus, if any of the notable villains featured in Marvel’s Hit-Monkey make it into the MCU, it will be via an X-Men or Daredevil tie-in.
