In his quest to become human once again, Michael Morbius made a grave mistake that turned him into even more of a monster. His unnatural evolution has continued, as his condition has grown even worse, as Morbius is now a full-fledged beast.
Morbius has longed for a cure for his vampirism. Born with a rare blood disease, Michael Morbius attempts to cure himself leading to him becoming a living vampire. In Morbius by Vita Ayala, Marcelo Ferreira, Paulo Siqueira, Roberto Poggi, Dono Sanchez-Almara and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Morbius thought he found a cure that could make him human again. However, the cure made him only more of a monster. Now, he’s evolved into an all-new kind of vampire.
In the pages of Morbius #4, Michael’s condition rapidly gets less and less human. As Elizabeth Nikos, his childhood friend who’s brother dedicated his life to curing Morbius’ only to be the first victim of his bloodlust, tries to take down the vampire, he only gets stronger and stronger. Morbius pleads with Elizabeth to stop attacking as he warns her he’s about to lose control. She doesn’t relent, using her crossbow to shoot an arrow through Morbius’ chest. Instead of killing him, it just makes him angrier.
The shot doesn’t down Morbius. Instead, his muscles get bigger and his small wings sprout into giant ones. Spider-Man pleas with Morbius not to kill Elizabeth, but is met with a wallopping punch that sends the web-slinger flying across the room. Morbius turns his attention back to Elizabeth, where he tells her she wishes she was strong enough to take him down. It’s clear his bloodlust has significantly increased with the new form. Michael Morbius isn’t in control – he’s a monster. While he was still afflicted before, Morbius had some sort of control. In his new form, the monster has taken over.
This doesn’t bode well for Elizabeth or Spider-Man. One of the few things stopping Morbius from feeding on them was the fact he knew it wasn’t the right thing to do. Now, there’s nothing stopping him from devouring whoever he wants in the name of his bloodlust. Morbius’ greatest fear has come true – he is a monster in every sense of the word. Can he find his humanity amidst his new evolution? It won’t be easy. But, Morbius has been fighting the odds every step of the way in his transformation – so if anyone can overcome this, it’s him.
