Marvel’s science advisor, Clifford Johnson, has an idea for how the Fantastic Four can join the MCU, and it’s absolutely perfect. The Fantastic Four stand among Marvel Comics’ most iconic characters, but they’ve remained separate from the MCU. This is due to Fox owning the rights to the characters for several years. However, thanks to the Disney-Fox merger, Marvel Studios now has the opportunity to bring the Fantastic Four into their massive connected universe. Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed the Fantastic Four are on the way last summer, but exactly when they will arrive is unclear.

Still, fans are very excited for these new additions, especially since their previous big screen appearances haven’t been incredibly well-received. Tim Story directed two Fantastic Four films in 2005 and 2007 featuring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and future MCU star Chris Evans. Both earned mixed responses from fans and critics. Fox decided to reboot the property in 2015 with Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, but that sank at the box office and earned poor reviews. Trank has since revealed Fox had a hand in much of Fantastic Four’s reshoots, which impacted the final result.

As said before, Marvel hasn’t revealed their plans for the Fantastic Four, but Johnson has some ideas for them. Johnson is a theoretical physicist who has helped numerous films and television shows in crafting realistic science-based stories. Johnson previously worked on Avengers: Endgame and is currently assisting on the Disney+ show Ms. Marvel. However, Johnson really wants to work with the Fantastic Four. His idea for how they can be integrated into the MCU is simple: Get Black Panther involved. While talking to IndieWire, Johnson explained his idea:

“Wakanda and the Fantastic Four should connect at the beginning, and I know how to do it,” he said, noting that the African superhero was originally a scientist in the comics. “I think it would be a cool wink to the comics and another way to show diversity in science to have the entry point of the Fantastic Four into the Marvel cinematic universe happen because the Wakandans discover them in some extra dimension and bring them into the MCU,” Johnson said. “If they call me, I’m willing to go to town on that.”

Introducing the Fantastic Four through Black Panther is an excellent idea. As Johnson pointed out, Wakanda is incredibly advanced when it comes to technology, and it would make sense that this would put them in the path of the Fantastic Four. Fans have already wondered if Black Panther 2 could introduce the Fantastic Four’s biggest villain, Doctor Doom. Depending on what Black Panther 2 focuses on, there might not be room for the Fantastic Four. However, their arrival could easily be teased in the post-credits scene, similar to how Avengers: Infinity War hinted at Captain Marvel’s future arrival.

Regardless of how, the Fantastic Four are certainly headed to the MCU. It’s likely that there won’t be a Fantastic Four movie until at least 2023 (based on Marvel’s current release calendar), but if Black Panther 2 really does introduce them, fans only have to wait until 2022 for their arrival. Granted, this is all speculation, but until something concrete is announced, anything could happen.
