Players think that Peter Parker and Miles Morales should bump into each other while free-roaming in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and maybe even jump in to help each other during random crime busts. The upcoming sequel to Insomniac’s hit open-world superhero extravaganza already promises to feature Peter and Miles working together to take down New York’s criminal element along with dangerous new foes like Venom, as shown during the first Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer at last month’s PlayStation Showcase.
2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man had players take control of multiple characters like Miles and Mary Jane, but the bulk of the gameplay was still mainly centered around Peter – Miles didn’t acquire his own spider-powers until late in the game and even then, never used them save for a post-credits reveal. By the time Miles did take up the mantle of Spidey in the 2020 spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Peter would be largely absent from the plot due to being on a journalism assignment with Mary Jane – but there was still a small hint of what two currently active Spider-Men would play like during a boss battle with the Rhino at the very beginning. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks to finally fulfill that potential, and fans are already sharing ideas about how Insomniac could handle Peter and Miles’s everyday interactions in its newest title.
According to Game Rant, Reddit user PineappleTargaryen submitted an interesting idea for Peter and Miles to bump into each other while free-roaming in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to r/SpidermanPS4 a couple of days ago. They also suggest that whichever Spidey the player isn’t controlling at the time could pop in to assist if they are near a random crime, leading another user to point out that a similar feature was implemented in the critically-acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2.
Not much is known yet about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, save that the upcoming sequel will be “massive” in size and the plot will be much darker than Insomniac’s previous two superhero adventures. Fans have already begun to speculate on how Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could build on the series’ gameplay and lore, suggesting that the game could introduce Spider-Gwen or implement Venom’s classic immunity to Peter’s Spider-Sense during the inevitable boss fight with the symbiotic menace.
Given that both Peter and Miles appear to be on active Spider-duty in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, having the pair meet up with each other while free-roaming could make for some fun character interactions – such as the heroes calling out to each other mid-web swing or maybe even perching on top of a building for a quick chat. In any case, players can look forward to seeing Peter and Miles team up when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on the PlayStation 5 sometime in 2023.
