The Nintendo leaks just keep on coming, only this time, it’s a more serious leak than a few unseen Pokémon, as a number of development assets for older Nintendo systems have made their way online.

In 2018, an early build of Pokémon Gold & Silver that was exhibited at Space World ’97 leaked online, revealing tons of unused Pokémon designs and showing a drastically different original concept for the Johto region. There were a lot of rumors circulating about how this demo made its way into the wild, but it has since been revealed that someone managed to gain access to Nintendo’s internal servers and leaked their findings online.

The latest leak of Nintendo content is far more damaging than some Pokémon that were never meant to see the light of day. According to a thread on Resetera and Twitter user PushDustin, the source codes for the N64, GameCube, and Nintendo Wii were leaked, along with Nintendo planning documents from 2004-06 and information relating to the Wii’s hardware.

There have also been more Pokémon leaks in the form of debug builds of the Gen VII Pokémon games, which have allowed fans a closer look at how they work and what they’re capable of. These follow similar debug versions/source code leaks of Pokémon Blue, Pokémon Yellow, and Pokémon Gold & Silver that have also made their way online in recent weeks.

This leak is going to have some severe repercussions, for everyone involved and for how Nintendo deals with its archived material in the future. The internal workings of some of Nintendo’s biggest systems have now been laid bare to the world and it’s going to be easier than ever for homebrew fans to cook up emulators for these systems.

Nintendo fansare also waiting with bated breath to see if there are any other leaks on the way. Is it possible that we might finally see EarthBound 64 or Ura Zelda released into the wild? It’s unclear at this time, but if such vital documents have found their way into the hands of hackers, then anything is possible.
